In an interview with VNA on the occasion of President Luong Cuong and the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation attending the high-level General Debate of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Ms. Kanni Wignaraja expressed her belief that Vietnam will continue to play an increasingly important role in the common work of the United Nations. Ms. Kanni Wignaraja said that Vietnam clearly shows its desire to play a greater role and contribute more to ASEAN, the Asia- Pacific region as well as the world.
According to her, the world needs more voices like Vietnam and hopes to see Vietnam play a greater global role in peace-building and peacekeeping activities, supporting countries in difficulty. Regarding the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), according to the UNDP Asia-Pacific Regional Director, SDGs are not a destination, but a journey of continuous development. And Vietnam has been successful in integrating SDGs into national plans.
Ms. Kanni Wignaraja said it was an honor for UNDP in particular and the United Nations in general to work in Vietnam; and believed that if it continued to invest in people, capacity, aspiration, identity and equality, Vietnam would achieve even more breakthrough achievements in the future.
