Starting the visit and working session in New Zealand, on the afternoon of September 22, the delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam led by Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda and Education Commission, met with National Assembly Chairman Gerry Brownlee and attended the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day celebration organized by the Vietnamese Embassy in New Zealand in the New Zealand Parliament House.
At the meeting, Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia conveyed the greetings and warm regards of Vietnamese leaders to the Speaker of the New Zealand Parliament , highly appreciating the results of the Speaker's official visit to Vietnam last August.
National Assembly Chairman Gerry Brownlee was pleased and welcomed the Communist Party of Vietnam delegation's visit at a time when the relationship between the two countries is developing very well. He expressed his good impression of the recent visit to Vietnam, especially witnessing the joyful atmosphere of the Vietnamese people during the 80th National Day celebration.
Mr. Gerry Brownlee congratulated Vietnam on its achievements in recent years and said that Vietnam has an increasingly important role and position in the region and internationally.
The Speaker of the New Zealand Parliament was pleased that the two countries had upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership earlier this year, emphasizing that the two sides have great potential to expand cooperation in the coming time; highly appreciated and believed that Vietnam would achieve its development goals by 2030 and 2045, expressing that New Zealand would continue to accompany Vietnam in the development process; thereby contributing to the common prosperity of both countries.
Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia thanked the Government, Parliament and people of New Zealand for their valuable support and assistance to Vietnam in many fields over the past 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations as well as in the country's construction and development today.
He suggested that the two sides continue to nurture and promote the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, implement high-level agreements; promptly complete the Action Program for the 2025-2030 period to implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership; in which, it is necessary to strengthen political relations through exchanges of high-level delegations and at all levels, both on the Party, State and Government channels, and tighten people-to-people exchanges as well as between localities and businesses of the two countries.
Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia proposed that New Zealand support sharing experiences with Vietnam in areas such as national governance, digital transformation, green development, providing more scholarships for Vietnamese students studying in New Zealand, enhancing student exchanges and exchanges between universities of the two countries.
The two sides agreed to propose that the agencies of the two countries coordinate to implement specific measures to further enhance the effectiveness of cooperation in the fields of economics, investment, trade, defense, security, and consider opening a direct flight route between the two countries soon to facilitate cooperation in tourism, culture, education and training as well as other fields in line with world trends.
On international issues, the two sides emphasized the need to respect international law, the importance of freedom, security, and safety of navigation and aviation in the region, and ensuring a peaceful, stable, and developing environment in the region and the world.
