Dismiss National Assembly delegates Lai The Nguyen and Tran Quoc Nam

The National Assembly Standing Committee held a secret ballot and issued a resolution to expel Mr. Lai The Nguyen, National Assembly delegate of Thanh Hoa province, and Mr. Tran Quoc Nam, National Assembly delegate of Khanh Hoa province.

On the afternoon of September 22, the National Assembly Standing Committee met to consider and decide on the dismissal of the following deputies of the 15th National Assembly: Lai The Nguyen, deputy of the 15th National Assembly of Thanh Hoa province; and Tran Quoc Nam, deputy of the 15th National Assembly of Khanh Hoa province.

Mr. Lai The Nguyen ceased his duties as National Assembly delegate of Thanh Hoa province.

Accordingly, at the meeting, the National Assembly Standing Committee discussed, voted by secret ballot to approve and promulgate Resolution 1831/NQ-UBTVQH15 on the dismissal of Mr. Lai The Nguyen and Mr. Tran Quoc Nam from their duties as deputies of the 15th National Assembly.

The National Assembly Standing Committee's consideration of the dismissal of Mr. Lai The Nguyen and Mr. Tran Quoc Nam from their duties as National Assembly deputies is based on the opinions of competent agencies; based on the submission of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly Deputies' Work Committee as well as the application to resign from their duties as National Assembly deputies of Mr. Lai The Nguyen and Mr. Tran Quoc Nam, both on September 18.

Previously, Mr. Lai The Nguyen, former Standing Deputy Secretary, Chairman of the People's Council of Thanh Hoa province, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Thanh Hoa province, was allowed to retire early by the Party Central Committee on September 12. The People's Council of Thanh Hoa province then did not carry out the procedure to dismiss Mr. Lai The Nguyen from the position of Chairman of the People's Council but only carried out the procedure to report to the Provincial People's Council about Mr. Nguyen's early retirement.

Mr. Tran Quoc Nam ceased his duties as National Assembly delegate of Khanh Hoa province.

Mr. Lai The Nguyen (55 years old, from Thanh Hoa), has a master's degree in law, and has held the positions of Secretary of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee; Chief of Office of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee; Secretary of the Ngoc Lac District Party Committee (Thanh Hoa); Head of the Organization Committee of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee; Standing Deputy Secretary of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee; Member of the 15th National Assembly; Chairman of the Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Council, term 2021 - 2026.

Meanwhile, Mr. Tran Quoc Nam, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province, also resigned from work from late August to early September. Then, on September 16, at the 2nd session, the People's Council of Khanh Hoa province, term VII, elected Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Khanh Hoa province, as Chairman of the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province for the 2021-2026 term.

Mr. Tran Quoc Nam (54 years old, hometown Quang Ngai province) used to be Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Organization Board, then Chairman of the People's Committee of Ninh Thuan province (old) since 2020 and was a delegate of the 15th National Assembly, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Ninh Thuan province.
