The 247th/248th Session of the PTC was recently held at the WCO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. The event attracted the participation of nearly 300 delegates from member Customs administrations, international organizations, the private sector and research institutions worldwide.
During the four-day PTC meeting, delegates discussed the development of options and shaped how Customs will respond to current challenges, including climate change, digital transformation and the increase in international trade volumes, especially e-commerce.
Initiatives ranging from promoting Green Customs, addressing e-commerce-related issues, to facilitating micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), contribute to realizing the WCO’s 2025 commitment to efficiency, security and prosperity.
With active participation and lively discussions during 4 working days, the 247th/248th Session of the PTC adopted the Commission's Work Program for the period 2025 - 2028 and achieved many important results.
In particular, at this Session, the PTC organized an in-depth discussion on e-commerce, which is considered a strategic priority in WCO policy-making activities. The discussion helped delegates to discuss in depth key issues such as handling low-value goods, enhancing cooperation with relevant partners and applying digital technology to improve efficiency, ensuring harmony between trade facilitation and regulatory compliance.
At the 247th/248th Session of the PTC, Vietnam continued to be trusted by WCO members to be re-elected as Chairman of the PTC, WCO for the 2025-2026 term. Continuing to hold this role demonstrates the recognition of the Commission as well as WCO members for Vietnam's proactive, responsible and effective role during the 2024-2025 term of Chairman of the PTC.
In her closing speech at the Session, Ms. Nguyen Thi Vinh Hoai - Counselor, Representative of Vietnam Customs at the WCO expressed her sincere thanks to the delegates for their positive and effective contributions to the overall success of the Session as well as the activities of the Committee.
Ms. Hoai noted that global Customs agencies are facing a period of transformation - from digitalization, sustainable development, e-commerce to challenges at vulnerable borders, so strengthening international cooperation, promoting innovation and technology application, improving adaptability and sustainable development in the process of promoting trade facilitation and ensuring global supply chain security becomes increasingly important.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Vinh Hoai will continue to chair upcoming PTC meetings as PTC Chairwoman for the 2025 - 2026 term.
Established in April 1953, the PTC is one of the core bodies of the WCO, playing a central role in developing technical tools, promoting trade facilitation and supporting Customs agencies in dealing with increasing challenges.
