The ranking was announced by WIN - Global Independent Market Research Network on July 16, based on a survey of more than 33,000 people in 40 countries on 5 continents.

The results are calculated based on 7 component indices: AI usage, AI trust, AI acceptance, AI effectiveness, AI usability, AI comfort, AI interest.

In Vietnam, the survey was conducted by Indochina Research with 900 people in 4 major cities, taking place from December 2024 to January 2025.

With 59.2 points on a 100-point scale, Vietnam ranked 6th, above many developed countries such as South Korea, Australia, and Japan in the global rankings. Notably, Vietnam ranked 3rd in terms of AI trust (65.6 points) and 5th in AI acceptance (71.6 points).

Despite high levels of trust and interest in AI, actual usage in Vietnam is still limited, reaching only 37.6 points - ranked 17/40, the lowest among the four component indices.

Data shows that about 60% of people surveyed have used AI, but only 3% use it daily.

The gap is also evident across geography and age: nearly 90% of people aged 18–24 in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have used AI, while this rate drops sharply in Da Nang and Can Tho, especially in the age group of 55 and over.

According to Mr. Xavier Depouilly, General Director of Indochina Research Vietnam, this is a signal that a large part of the urban population in Vietnam - especially the young - is proactively approaching new technology.

“The young generation of Vietnam is ready to embrace technology and that plays a big role in the country's rapid economic growth and digital transformation,” he said.

In addition, the Indochina Research report also revealed users' concerns about AI. Similar to other Asia- Pacific countries, Vietnamese people are most concerned about data privacy and how AI collects and uses personal information (52%).

About 48% of survey respondents fear being replaced by AI in their jobs. Only 36% expressed concern about disinformation (deepfakes, public opinion manipulation).

Indochina Research assesses that with a high level of trust and positive attitude, Vietnam has many advantages to break through in the global AI race.

However, to capitalize on this potential, AI accessibility needs to be expanded to older populations and non-urban areas.

Along with that is the building of a trustworthy, safe and user-friendly AI ecosystem. This development does not only come from technology but also requires support from policy, education and communication – to shorten the digital divide and spread technology to the whole population.

According to Indochina Research, there is still a large segment of the population that does not have access to AI, so it is necessary to promote testing, using and spreading AI more widely.

Vietnam also needs to ensure that this development process will be comprehensive and inclusive, in order to maintain its current advantages and reach further in the future.
