Informing the people, Mr. Vo Van Ngoan, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Vinh Long province, said that over the past week, the provincial environmental sector has coordinated with relevant units to make efforts to implement many solutions, such as: Covering HDPE tarpaulin to prevent water seepage and air dispersion at garbage ponds No. 11 and 12; spraying biological products at pond No. 14; thoroughly fixing water leakage locations from the landfill into the surrounding environment; increasing waste treatment capacity...
Accordingly, up to now, the environmental pollution situation around An Hiep landfill has been significantly reduced.

At the dialogue, many households said that the stench from the landfill has decreased compared to more than a week ago, however, at some times it is still strong.
People requested the environmental sector of Vinh Long province to continue closely monitoring the activities of An Hiep landfill, continue to take measures to completely handle the odor; absolutely do not let wastewater from the landfill flow into the surrounding area.
Some households requested the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment to commit in writing not to let the environmental pollution at An Hiep landfill recur and not to expand the landfill towards residential areas.
Households living near the landfill also requested that local authorities have a plan to provide medical support and health checks after a long time of breathing polluted air.

In response to the above requests from the people, the leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Vinh Long province committed to strictly monitoring the waste treatment process (collection, classification, waste treatment...) at An Hiep landfill.
Every month, the environmental sector will have independent inspection teams and organize regular dialogues with people to promptly grasp and resolve environmental-related complaints.
Leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Vinh Long province also requested local authorities, especially the People's Committees of An Hiep and Ba Tri communes, to continue to coordinate in propagating and mobilizing people to share difficulties with functional agencies.
The leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Environment and local residents also agreed to let An Hiep landfill receive and process garbage again from August 1.
During the resumption of operation, if an environmental incident occurs, the operating unit must thoroughly resolve it within 12 hours from the time of detection.
