Mbeumo scored 20 goals in the Premier League in the 2024/25 season. |
Manchester United are going all out to complete the Bryan Mbeumo deal for a fee of up to £71 million. This is not only a blockbuster signing but also an affirmation of the Red Devils' ambition to reform the attack after a disappointing 2024/25 season.
Determination and patience
From an initial valuation of around £50 million, the “Red Devils” had to accept an escalation to £71 million to convince Brentford. The partner’s determination, along with plans to find a replacement like Omari Hutchinson, caused negotiations to drag on. However, the important thing is that this deal was never in danger of falling apart.
United are keen to seal Mbeumo ahead of their US tour, and he is likely to feature against West Ham in New Jersey. While he may miss some pre-season training, Mbeumo's four consecutive Premier League seasons should ensure he can adapt quickly.
Last summer, United didn’t spend more than £60m on any signing. But this transfer window, they broke the barrier for both Mbeumo and Cunha. The £71m figure for Mbeumo alone is certainly controversial, but if the two new signings bring in around 35 goals, all the talk will be for naught.

Before Mbeumo, MU had Cunha from Wolves. |
It is worth noting that both Cunha and Mbeumo have proven their worth in the Premier League - a safer and wiser option than gambling in other leagues. After a season that ended with a negative goal difference, adding two of the Premier League's top scorers is a sensible move.
Center problem
Even with Mbeumo, Man United still lack a top-class striker. Hojlund and Zirkzee are not good enough to carry the attack. The club is forced to consider short-term options or wait for the opportunity to own a striker with a release clause.
Mbeumo will not be forced to play as a striker. He is strongest on the wing, where he can combine with Bruno Fernandes, Amad and Cunha to create a versatile attacking framework.
Not only talented, Mbeumo also stands out thanks to his progressiveness. Right in his first season in the Premier League, he proactively applied a special training program, from correcting his posture to improving his physical strength - a turning point that made him one of the top wingers in the league.
Mbeumo promises to improve the quality of MU's attack. |
Old Trafford certainly carries a lot more pressure than the 17,000-seat Brentford Community Stadium, but Mbeumo's humility and iron will are what make United believe he is up to the challenge.
Bryan Mbeumo is not only an expensive signing but also an affirmation of Man United's ambition to return to the top. This is not a magic wand that will help the "Red Devils" transform immediately, but with Mbeumo and Cunha, their attack has a reason to become stronger and more vibrant next season.
