One of the faces that has attracted the attention of Vietnamese tennis fans is definitely Learner Tien. The American tennis player, whose father and mother are both of Vietnamese descent, has made it to the fourth round. On his journey, the 20-year-old man only needed 2 sets to win his ticket to the next round.

In addition to the two defeated compatriots Colton Smith (round 1) and Reilly Opelka (round 3), the most notable name eliminated by Tien was the 22nd seed, Denis Shapovalov (round 2). In round 4, the tennis player currently ranked 61st in the ATP continued to face another compatriot, Alex Michelsen, the 26th seed also made a splash when he unexpectedly defeated the player ranked 23 places above him, Lorenzo Musetti, in round 3.

Thanks to his impressive performance, Learner Tien became the only unseeded player to make it to the fourth round. The young Vietnamese star is even fully capable of reaching the quarterfinals because his opponent is not a stranger to him.

Remember at the Next Gen ATP Finals 2024, Tien also faced Michelsen in the semi-finals and won brilliantly after 5 tense sets. Although he only finished second in the tournament, the 2005-born player still became the first person in the history of the tournament to beat all three top seeds.

Besides the American civil war between the two close friends, the remaining matches in the fourth round also promise to be exciting and unpredictable. The number 1 seed, Alexander Zverev, after struggling to overcome Matteo Arnaldi, will face Francisco Cerundolo (14).

Despite being rated higher, this promises to be no easy match for the German star. In all three previous encounters, Zverev had to give up his racket to his Argentine opponent. However, that was the story on the clay courts in Madrid and Buenos Aires. On the hard court of Toronto, the world No. 3 is still expected to successfully take revenge.

Second seed Taylor Fritz will face Jiri Lehecka. History is in the American's favor as Fritz has won all three previous meetings in Cincinnati, Monte-Carlo and the United Cup.

Other top contenders for the title such as Holger Rune, Andrey Rublev, Frances Tiafoe, Casper Ruud will take on underdogs such as Alexei Popyrin (18), Davidovich Fokina (20), Alex de Minaur (9) and Karen Khachanov (11). These are not easy matches to predict.

In the women's singles, there were surprises in the third round when both seeds Jessica Pegula (defending champion - seed number 3) and Mirra Andreeva (seed number 4) had to stop before opponents who were rated lower. However, the two top candidates, Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek, are still moving forward steadily.

While the American No. 1 seed had to go through two difficult rounds, losing three sets each time, to advance, the reigning Wimbledon champion easily defeated relatively unknown names, Guo Hanyu and Eva Lys.

But in the fourth round, Gauff's opponent is only the host country's wildcard, Vanessa Mboko. On the contrary, Swiatek will have to face the 16th seed, Clara Tauson.

The 2025 Canadian Open, the 6th Masters 1000 tournament of the year, will take place from July 27 to August 7 at the Sobeys Tennis Complex in Toronto, Canada. Alexei Popyrin and Jessica Pegula are the defending champions in the men's and women's singles events at the tournament.

In addition to points, players will also receive corresponding bonuses for each round. The men's and women's singles champions will receive $1,125,000 and $750,000, respectively. This year's men's singles event is missing many famous faces such as Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner.
