Will a Beer Museum be built on the land where the Hanoi Beer Factory is being relocated?

VHO - In an interview with the press, Associate Professor Bui Hoai Son, Standing Member of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education, stated that the 5.2-hectare plot of land after the relocation of the Hanoi Beer Factory at 183 Hoang Hoa Tham (Hanoi) could be harmoniously planned: A portion of the area could be used to build a high school to meet the urgent needs of the people, while a Beer Museum could be developed as an industrial heritage site and a new cultural and tourist highlight of the capital.

According to Mr. Son, the most important thing when discussing the "prime land" at 183 Hoang Hoa Tham is to place it within its historical context, as a special industrial heritage of the capital. This is because beer is not just a familiar beverage, but also a testament to Hanoi 's industrialization and modernization process from the French colonial era to the present day.

When the French laid the foundations for the first breweries in Hanoi, they not only brought a new product, but also technology, industrial production methods, and a modern urban lifestyle. From then on, Hanoi Beer gradually became a brand closely associated with the people, entering collective memory and becoming an integral part of the city's identity.

If we transform this place into the Hanoi Beer Museum, we will not only preserve the story of a beverage, but also depict the entire transformation journey of the capital city: from colonial rule to liberation, from the centrally planned economy to integration. It is the story of the people, the generations of workers who dedicated their lives to the factory, of the unique cultural lifestyle of Hanoi's streets, and of the creativity and adaptability of the Vietnamese people in the face of waves of integration.

This is what makes the Beer Museum not merely a commercial institution, but an industrial heritage museum, where urban memory is recreated, and where domestic and international visitors can gain a deeper understanding of a unique piece in Hanoi's development history.

Set against the backdrop of Hanoi's development into a major cultural center, dedicating this land to the development of the Beer Museum is a long-term visionary choice: transforming a physical space into a spiritual symbol, turning prime real estate into a repository of the capital's "golden memories."

“I believe that in the planning of the land at 183 Hoang Hoa Tham, it is entirely possible to find a compromise solution that both ensures the rights of students and preserves and promotes the cultural values of the capital city. I support allocating a portion of the land to build a high school, because currently there is almost no suitable land left in the ward for this type of school. This is a very urgent need of the people, especially parents who want their children to study in convenient conditions, close to their residences. The city's response to this need not only solves the education problem but also demonstrates due concern for the future of the younger generation,” Mr. Son said.
