On the evening of December 12th, at the Van Mieu/Quoc Tu Giam historical site, the EU-Vietnam Sustainable Design Award (EVSDA) 2025 ceremony took place. The award was organized by the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Vietnam.

This year's event honored 20 teams of authors with outstanding projects. The Special Prize was awarded to four projects: “Development of self-interlocking green reinforced clay bricks for environmentally friendly housing construction, using local materials and labor, contributing to Vietnam's net-zero emission commitment” (Breakthrough Initiative category), “TEMPORARY” (Product Design category), “Voice Gems: 1000 Year Archive” (Communication Design category), and “Clay Pot House” (Architecture category).

According to the Organizing Committee, representatives from the four winning teams of authors will be awarded a week-long stay in European countries, with support from the Embassies of the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Italy.

Other projects such as “BioWraps” , “The Straw Journey” , “Carbon Craft Eyewear” , and “Mekong Delta” were awarded the Audience Choice Award, the Promising Design Award, and the Outstanding Project Award, respectively.

According to the organizers, the works and projects are considered compelling models, demonstrating how creativity can lead to environmental responsibility, enhance resilience, and create lasting value.

The artworks also reflect the award's main theme, drawing inspiration from natural elements: Wind – representing creativity and uniqueness; Water – symbolizing adaptability and applicability in life; and the Sun – representing sustainability and long-term value.

EU Ambassador to Vietnam, Julien Guerrier, affirmed that the award is a commitment of the European Union to accompanying Vietnam in its green transition through cultural cooperation, resource development, and the promotion of sustainable industries, in line with the EU-Vietnam Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, as well as the direction of the Global Gateway Strategy.

According to him, sustainable development is not just a technological challenge, but also a transformation of the entire society – a journey that requires reshaping habits, reimagining spaces, redesigning products, and redefining lifestyles.

"This year's entries show that sustainable development is no longer an add-on, but is becoming a core mindset, a foundation, and a shared value that we all strive for," emphasized Julien Guerrier.

The EU–Vietnam Sustainable Design Award (EVSDA) is an initiative under the European Union’s Strategic Communications and Public Diplomacy Project (SCPD), aiming to honor outstanding Vietnamese designers who use the power of creativity to promote green lifestyles, sustainable consumption, and development in harmony with the environment.

Through this, EVSDA 2025 contributes to affirming the role of innovation as a crucial driver for sustainable development in Vietnam, while also becoming a bridge between European and Vietnamese values, highlighting the innovative ideas and communities that are contributing to shaping a more sustainable future.
