This is his second gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games, following his victory in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay with teammates Nguyen Viet Tuong, Tran Van Nguyen Quoc, and Tran Hung Nguyen.
Despite winning the gold medal, Hoang admitted that his performance wasn't entirely as he had hoped. "Today's result isn't as good as the SEA Games record I currently hold, so I will try to push harder in the next event," he shared.
Winning in his signature event also helped Hoang maintain his streak of 5 consecutive SEA Games top rankings in the 1,500m freestyle, demonstrating his consistency over the years and consolidating the leading position of the swimmer born in 2000 in the region.

"I was fortunate to compete during a period when Vietnamese swimming was developing strongly. When I started competing in long-distance events, I received a lot of guidance from senior swimmer Lam Quang Nhat."
"Besides that, my teachers and teammates have always been by my side, supporting me with every technical detail, which is why I've been able to maintain my form through 5 SEA Games," Nguyen Huy Hoang said about his journey of growth.

He also emphasized the importance of fighting spirit and encouragement from family and friends. "This year, many relatives came all the way here to watch me compete, and I'm very happy. That gives me more motivation to work harder and bring home many more medals for Vietnamese sports ," he shared.

Currently, Hoang's training volume has been adjusted to suit his new stage of development, but the demands on concentration are higher. He swims about 7–8 km per day, less than before but still maintaining quality and effectiveness.
"Whether I swim a little or a lot, I always remind myself to do well in each training session. As long as I maintain my diligence, success will come naturally," he said.
With his extensive experience and consistent performance, Huy Hoang is expected to win more medals in the remaining events at the SEA Games 33.
