As reported by CAND Newspaper, on the morning of May 23, in Chieng An commune, Muong La district (Son La), there was a prolonged heavy rain causing flash floods. At that time, Ms. Cu Thi D. (born in 1989) was riding a motorbike carrying her two children on the road in Muong La district. When crossing a stream in Nong Hoi Duoi village, due to the strong current, both the person and the vehicle were swept away. At that time, Ms. D.'s eldest child was able to cling to a tree branch and escape, while Ms. D. and her youngest child, Sung Thi C., were unfortunately swept away by the flood and went missing.
Upon receiving the news, the local forces of Chieng An commune and the functional forces of Muong La district mobilized all their forces to search for the victims. Son La Provincial Police directed the Commune Police and 30 officers of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of the Provincial Police to urgently search for the victims' bodies. However, due to the steep and complicated terrain, many large rocks swept away by water, the search was difficult. As of May 26, the force was still continuing to overcome difficulties and make efforts to search for the body of Sung Thi C. (born in 2014).
