After a long time of research, testing and manufacturing... the 40mm handheld grenade launcher, synchronized with a sight, was born under the name MGL-VN1 (later completed, named SPL-6)".

"The gun was sent to the 113th Special Forces Brigade for testing, and was evaluated as being faster, more accurate, and more powerful than the M79. On the day of the combined shooting, with superiors present, we were very worried because the tests were too difficult. For example, we had to hit a 60cm high window from a distance of 100m," Mr. Toan recalled and laughed: "But then, we realized that our special forces were too good, only firing the first shot destroyed the target. At the end, we met the soldiers and praised them, but they replied: it was mainly because the gun was good, aiming through the glass was easy and fast, the gun was stable"...

In 2007, the Weapons Institute was assigned to research, design, and test-produce a rapid-fire pistol modeled after the Micro-Uzi to equip special forces. This is a compact, high-speed, fast-aiming pistol equipped with a silencer, red-dot sight, etc. As a result, the research team created the 9mm rapid-fire pistol TL-K12. Not only does it have similar features, the TL-K12 can also be interchanged with the Micro-Uzi.
Test firing of 30mm naval ammunition
In 2014, the General Department of Defense Industry assigned the Weapons Institute to carry out a research project to design and manufacture a blind-angle gun for special forces. The advantage of this gun is that it can destroy targets without revealing itself to the enemy. The project was carried out from 2014 to 2016 and was accepted and awarded the B prize.
New generation weapons
Colonel - Dr. Nguyen Phuc Linh (Director of the Institute of Weapons) said: "Recently, the Institute of Weapons has participated in many key scientific projects and programs on research and development of new generation weapons and technical equipment with integration and high scientific content, and nearly 70 topics and tasks have been evaluated and accepted by science and technology councils at all levels; of which 97% of the topics have been applied to production or are qualified for mass production".

"However, we also encounter many difficulties," Director Nguyen Phuc Linh pondered and explained: "Researching, designing, and manufacturing weapons always encounters obstacles, such as difficulty accessing new knowledge in the field of advanced military science and technology, because most countries only cooperate in training and transfer at a limited level."
In Vietnam, although research equipment and production technology lines have been basically invested in, meeting the requirements for producing weapons and technical equipment in the equipment of full-strength infantry divisions and some new generation types, high-tech weapons require more modern research equipment, measuring and testing equipment and production technology lines.
