Rodrygo case takes unexpected turn

The Rodrygo deal took a sudden turn when Tottenham officially asked Real Madrid for permission to negotiate with the Brazilian player.

Throughout the summer of 2025, Rodrygo received special attention from many big teams, especially in the Premier League. Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are all said to want to own the 24-year-old winger.

However, according to AS (Spain), both Liverpool and Chelsea have withdrawn from the deal. The "Red Brigade" has now turned to Newcastle's Alexander Isak, while Chelsea is focusing on recruiting Xavi Simons.

Liverpool are still allowing Luis Diaz to join Bayern Munich, but manager Arne Slot does not see Rodrygo as a replacement. BBC journalist James Pearce wrote: "There are currently no negotiations regarding Rodrygo. He is not on the list of replacements for Diaz."

However, the possibility of Rodrygo coming to the Premier League is not closed. According to AS , Tottenham sent an official request to Real Madrid to be allowed to approach the Brazilian star.

Spurs see Rodrygo as the jewel in Thomas Frank's new project. The London club are ready to make Rodrygo the centrepiece of their play, especially in the context of Son Heung-min considering leaving the club.

Real Madrid value Rodrygo at €90m, but Tottenham hope to negotiate a lower price. Tottenham Hotspur believe that Rodrygo, with his young age and great potential, will be the new leader of the attack.

Arsenal are also big admirers of Rodrygo but have struggled financially after spending £55m to bring Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon. Spurs are now the team with the real ability to make a move.
