In the first water supply trip, more than 300m3 of water for the daily needs of officers and soldiers of Naval Region 5 was transported by the unit's ships from Phu Quoc Island (Kien Giang) to the mainland to provide to people in 4 communes of U Minh District and Tran Van Thoi District to support people in overcoming the shortage of daily water during the peak days of drought.

Previously, due to the negative impacts of prolonged heat, the People's Committee of Ca Mau province signed Decision No. 719 on declaring a level 2 drought emergency in U Minh and Tran Van Thoi districts; at the same time, requesting local authorities to identify areas with difficulties in domestic water sources, deploy solutions to serve water supply, storage and treatment for households, and prevent people from lacking domestic water.

Rear Admiral Nguyen Huu Thoan, Political Commissar of the Naval Region 5 Command, said: During this water supply, the Region mobilized 4 ships including: 470, 471, 526, 529 to receive and transport water from Phu Quoc Island and Border Guard Squadron 28, Border Guard Command to supply to the people. The unit's ships will carry out this task from now until mid-May if the drought situation does not change.
