50 years of heroism
These days, all the streets around the Reunification Hall - the place that marked many important historical events of Ho Chi Minh City - are bright red. That is the color of the national flag, countless fresh flowers and above all, the joy in the hearts of every citizen. This morning, people from all over the streets poured into the Hall, their faces beaming with pride, choked with emotion on the Anniversary of the Unification of the Country: 50 years of the Liberation of the South, the reunification of the country (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).
At exactly 6:30 a.m., the parade began with a solemn flag-saluting ceremony, accompanied by the resounding sound of 21 cannon shots. When the red flag with a yellow star fluttered in the sky of the city named after Uncle Ho, thousands of hearts beat together, singing the majestic national anthem, creating a sacred and emotional atmosphere. Following that, the parade groups marched with proud and strong steps, one by one, through the main stage, demonstrating the strength and steadfast solidarity of the Vietnamese people. The majestic parade group included 23 military and militia groups, 13 public security force groups, 12 mass parade groups, 4 solemn honorary vehicles, and the special presence of 3 delegations from friendly countries: China, Laos and Cambodia.
The highlight of the parade was the performance of a squadron of aircraft carrying the Party and national flags flying over Ho Chi Minh City. These images recall the heroic moment of April 30, 1975, when the liberation army entered the center of Saigon, reunifying the country.
Amidst the solemn and proud atmosphere of the ceremony, Lieutenant Vu Dung Nhi, a female soldier of the Quang Ninh Provincial Military Command, who directly participated in the parade formation of the female peacekeeping force of the Vietnam People's Army, could not hide her emotions: "Today is truly a very special and meaningful day not only for me and 16 officers and soldiers of the Quang Ninh Provincial Armed Forces but also for all officers and soldiers directly participating in the parade blocks. The honor of participating in this event is a great pride in my military career. As a young female soldier, with enthusiasm and youthfulness, I always try my best to have beautiful, strong, and proud steps across the stage, worthy of the trust and expectations of everyone. Although the training journey was full of hardships and challenges, when I set foot in Ho Chi Minh City, feeling the love and enthusiastic support of the people here, I felt like be given extraordinary strength to complete the mission in the most excellent way on this historic day."
Under the brilliant April sky, every road and street corner from urban to rural areas, from plains to mountains, borders, islands… throughout the heroic Mining Region seemed to be wearing a new coat of flags and flowers. The sound of drums and heroic marching music echoed everywhere, like a harmony of national pride, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country. The heroic melody of the song “As if Uncle Ho were here on the day of great victory…” resounded from loudspeakers, cultural houses, and every small alley… spreading the spirit of victory, recalling the heroic historical moment that the entire nation paid for with so much blood and bones.
From early morning on April 30, many veterans and people gathered at the Cultural House of Quarter 1A, Cam Trung Ward, Cam Pha City to watch the Commemoration Ceremony and the parade with eagerness and excitement. The red flags with yellow stars fluttering in the hands of children, the elderly, and young people... created a brilliant picture of patriotism. In particular, the image of veterans in neat uniforms, their chests sparkling with medals, their eyes shining with emotion as they watched each solemn parade step on the live screen from Ho Chi Minh City moved everyone who witnessed it to tears.
Party member Pham Thi Le, 65 years old (Cam Pha City) emotionally shared: I have been following the atmosphere of the preparation for the grand ceremony for the whole month, the flags and flowers filled the sky, people's hearts were excited. Today's parade is truly magnificent and sacred. Although I have lived most of my life, witnessing this historic moment, I am very moved and feel like a child again. Each step of the soldiers, each marching army seems to recall the heroic memories of the nation in the resistance war, in the process of protecting and building the country. Today's country is stronger and more confident than ever. All is the result of the solidarity and unanimity of the entire people and the entire Party.
Joining the joyful and bustling atmosphere of the people of the whole country welcoming the important event of the country, the people of Cao Xanh ward (Ha Long city) also excitedly gathered at the hall of the Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee headquarters to watch the live broadcast of this important event. Although each person has a different situation, age, and profession, they all share a great pride - the pride that the Vietnamese people live in peace, independence, freedom, and happiness.
Comrade Nguyen Hai Ngoc, Chairman of Cao Xanh Ward People's Committee, shared: This is an extremely valuable occasion to demonstrate patriotism, history education and tradition for the younger generation. Therefore, Cao Xanh Ward respectfully invited the war veterans and the Youth Union members to the headquarters to watch the ceremony live. This will not only help the war veterans meet each other, recall memories of the heroic time of fighting with guns, but also create opportunities for young people to understand and love the heroic history of the nation, and appreciate the great contributions of their ancestors.
Mr. Tran Xuan Nhu, a veteran who participated in many fierce battles in the Southern battlefield and in Laos. He had never been afraid of the smoke and bullets of the enemy, but his eyes filled with tears and emotion when the song "Color of Red Flowers" was played... "Vietnam, oh Vietnam, the mountains are as high as a mother's love. Four seasons of white hair, the love for her children. Vietnam, oh Vietnam, the mountain where you fell, burns brightly. The color of red flowers in the distant forest, burns brightly. The color of red flowers before the sunset..." The old veteran reminisced about his comrades who heroically sacrificed, the mothers waiting for their children, the wives waiting for their husbands... In order for him to enjoy peace, many other comrades heroically laid down their lives, never to return...
Full of emotion and pride
Emotion, gratitude and pride are the feelings of not only the Vietnamese people but also millions of hearts in the Mining Region on the happy day of 50 years of national reunification. When the army marched through the stage, the red flag with yellow star fluttered in the blue sky, the heroic music resounded, it was also the moment when the patriotic spirit surged in every gaze, every round of enthusiastic applause. More than a ceremony, this was an opportunity for everyone in the Mining Region to review history together, rekindle national traditions and foster gratitude to previous generations who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Manh Hung, former officer of the Office of the Zone 5 Party Committee, Central Front (currently residing in Cam Pha City) - one of the soldiers who directly participated in the Central Highlands campaign, advancing to liberate Saigon, emotionally shared: There is nothing more proud than being one of the participants in the fight to liberate the South and unify the country. Today, after exactly half a century, I and my comrades were able to witness the majestic parade of the heroic Vietnam People's Army in a joyful atmosphere. Looking back on the 50-year journey, we feel extremely excited, happy, but also very moved when thinking about our comrades and comrades who heroically sacrificed. As people who are luckier than our fallen comrades, before their heroic spirits, we vow to uphold the tradition of the good nature of Uncle Ho's soldiers, contributing with the entire Party and people to build an increasingly civilized and prosperous country.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dam, 88 years old, in Hai Ninh area, Tran Phu, Mong Cai city, was moved and shared: "Although we were not able to go directly to Ho Chi Minh City to watch the parade, we still watched it on television. Every time I see the national flag flying and hear the majestic footsteps of the parade, my heart is filled with deep pride for a glorious golden page of the nation's history. We are here, at the headland of the Fatherland, always looking towards our beloved South, proud of the unity of the country."
Not only the elderly, but also the young people could not hide their admiration and deep pride when witnessing the historical images in the program. The solemn atmosphere, the heroic songs, and the emotional parades made their hearts overflow with emotions that are difficult to express in words.
Reporter Thu Bau, from Co To Cultural Communication Center, shared during the journey back to the source: "I feel extremely honored to witness such a significant historical event. It is not only a commemorative ceremony, but also an opportunity for today's generation to understand more deeply about the past, about the great sacrifices of our ancestors so that the country can have peace and development as it is today. The majestic atmosphere of the ceremony, the emotion in the eyes of the attendees gave me a great inspiration. I understand that I need to make more efforts, constantly learn and contribute to building an increasingly rich and beautiful country, contributing to the sustainable development of Quang Ninh province, so that this place will forever be worthy of what previous generations have cultivated and left behind."
As a young generation born in peace, enjoying the fruits of the revolution, of the great Spring victory, today, living together with the war veterans in the heroic and sacred atmosphere of the nation, Bui Thi Quynh Nga, Secretary of the Town Youth Union, President of the Vietnam Youth Union of Quang Yen Town, also shares the same emotional and proud feelings as reporter Thu Bau, even though she did not directly witness the historic moment. Bui Thi Quynh Nga shared: We understand that our country has experienced many losses and pains of war, the blood and bones of our ancestors had to be shed in exchange for the great victory of the nation on April 30, 1975. After half a century, Vietnam has been and is growing strongly, worthy of the aspirations that our ancestors were willing to sacrifice for. As the future of the country, on this important holiday, we would like to send our promise to our ancestors to try to study, practice, build the future, and step into a new era with the country.
The program to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country is not only a major political and military event, but also a true national festival, where all hearts beat together. 50 years have passed, many things have changed, but the patriotism of the Vietnamese people in general and the Quang Ninh Mining Region in particular will never change. Forever a united, strong and peace-loving nation.
Continue the story of peace…
“Join me in writing the story of peace.
Looking at the bright homeland in the dawn
Looking at the bright sunlight and the fluttering national flag…”
The profound melodies in the lyrics of the song “Continuing the story of peace” by musician Nguyen Van Chung are not only a melody but also a heroic affirmation of today’s generation about continuing through study, work, and dedication to make the country more prosperous and strong. For many people in Quang Ninh, the brilliant milestone of the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification is also a source of inspiration, an invisible thread connecting the heroic past full of sacrifice and hardship with the present efforts to build and aspire for a bright and powerful future of Vietnam for all generations.
Secretary of the Cao Xanh Ward Youth Union (Ha Long City) Bui Thi Thu Huyen shared: The historical milestone of April 30, 1975 will always be a reminder for us of the meaning of faith and the strength of national unity. From then on, we will always be grateful and cherish what we have, constantly striving every day to be able to contribute a small part of our efforts in preserving these priceless values. Currently, the ward youth union is focusing on widely implementing the "Digital Education for the People" movement to promote the advantages of the young generation, helping local people to make good use of public services, apply digital technology to improve their lives, develop family economy, and create value for the community.
During the days of the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, the heroic story of the great victory has also lit a flame of faith, urging cadres, party members and people in the province to unite and excellently complete the assigned tasks. Soldier Vu Vong Tuyen, Regiment 244, Provincial Military Command shared: The great sacrifices of the previous generations have urged us, the young soldiers, to always strive to train and fight to maintain national sovereignty and security; to be ready to overcome difficulties, to rush to the front lines to help people in natural disasters, storms, floods, epidemics, to bring "pure hearts, bright minds, great ambitions" to continue the glorious tradition of our predecessors, to protect the revolutionary achievements of the nation. We always keep in mind to firmly follow the path chosen by the Party, Uncle Ho and our people; ready to fight and sacrifice; worthy of being the generation that continues to write the golden history of the Vietnamese nation; contributing to beautify and brighten the glorious tradition of the heroic Vietnam People's Army and the noble image of "Uncle Ho's Soldiers" in the new era."
Vu La Tuyet Trinh, class 9A2, Tran Quoc Toan Secondary School, Uong Bi City shared: I believe that our young generation can preserve peace not only with weapons or feats of arms, but with gratitude, understanding, and a spirit of readiness to act in studying, working, and even in every small thing every day. As the saying "When drinking water, remember its source" always reminds me to have peace, to go to school, to live in a happy, beautiful society today, we must be grateful for the contributions and losses that our ancestors have sacrificed to have the beautiful color of peace like today.
With the joint efforts and consensus of each citizen, to be ready to take off with the new era, Quang Ninh is focusing on building strategic development ideas for the next term and beyond, based on the viewpoint: Socio-economic development and environmental protection are the center; Party building is the key; cultural and human development is the foundation; ensuring national defense and security and promoting foreign affairs and international integration are essential and regular.
In the immediate future, in 2025 - a year of special importance; the final year of the 5-year plan 2021-2025; the year of holding party congresses at all levels, the 16th Provincial Party Congress towards the 14th National Party Congress, Quang Ninh will focus on implementing synchronous solutions to strive for a breakthrough in economic and social development. In particular, continuing to prioritize promoting growth on the basis of restructuring industries and fields, improving productivity, quality, efficiency, autonomy, resilience and competitiveness of the economy; focusing on implementing three strategic breakthroughs; promoting administrative reform, improving the investment and business environment, promoting comprehensive digital transformation; developing the digital economy, digital society...
Proud of its glorious history, the government and people of Quang Ninh are increasingly aware of their responsibility to preserve and promote their ancestors' traditions in the spirit of the new era - the era of striving for development, building a strong and prosperous Vietnam, standing shoulder to shoulder with the world powers, continuing to write a new page of the nation's history.
