The model of raising commercial pigeons is no longer strange to people in rural areas of Nghe An province. However, with difficulties in the consumption market and unstable profits, many people have given up. However, Mr. Bui Van Duong (residing in village 10, Quynh Trang commune, Hoang Mai town, Nghe An), with perseverance and a strong passion for starting a business, has proven that raising Titan pigeons can become an effective model, not only helping to increase income but also being a sustainable solution to escape poverty for people in rural areas.

After nearly 3 years of raising, Mr. Duong has 400 pairs of Titan pigeons .

Mr. Duong said that he was born and raised in a poor rural area. Many years ago, Mr. Duong tried his hand at agricultural models such as growing rice and raising cows. However, the economic efficiency was not enough to improve his family's life. After many years of searching for a new direction, Mr. Duong decided to switch to raising Titan pigeons - a bird breed originating from Thailand that is known for its high fertility and fast growth rate.

In the early days of starting his business, Mr. Duong encountered many difficulties. Lack of experience, no consumer market and an unstable model made him discouraged many times. However, with the spirit of "where there's a will, there's a way", he continued to research, learn and gradually overcome the difficulties. After three years of effort, his Titan pigeon breeding model has stabilized and brought in a stable income.

Mr. Duong said that bird food is just cereals, bran, rice, corn, and beans that are easy to find, so the cost of raising them is low.

Sharing his experience in raising pigeons, Mr. Duong said that the first thing to pay attention to is the cage. “The cage needs to be sturdy to avoid being attacked by cats and rats. Regularly clean, disinfect and monitor closely to promptly handle any problems that arise. Thanks to that, the birds will be healthy and have a low loss rate,” Mr. Duong said, adding that the bird’s food source is easy to find and low cost, mainly natural grains such as bran, rice, corn, and beans. Thanks to that, the cost of raising birds is low while still ensuring nutrition for the birds.

Mr. Duong said that Titan pigeons have a very high and regular reproductive capacity. Each female pigeon, after 4-5 months old, begins to lay its first clutch of 2 eggs each. After half a month, the female will continue to lay a second clutch. On average, each year, a pair of pigeons can lay over 25 clutches. To proactively source breeds, Mr. Duong invested money to buy an incubator and learn how to adjust the temperature to incubate eggs.

Mr. Duong bought an incubator and learned how to adjust the temperature to hatch eggs and actively breed them.

Currently, Mr. Duong's farm has 400 pairs of Titan pigeons, laying about 750 eggs per month, with an 80% hatching rate. "This breed of bird has a high adaptability to the climate conditions in our country, with a survival rate of 94-99%. The chicks can be sold for meat after about 25 days of hatching. As for breeding, they will reach the standard after about 2 months," Mr. Duong said, adding that with the selling price of breeding pigeons at about 300,000 VND/pair, the Titan pigeon breeding model brings a stable and quite high income for his family.

With high productivity and strong development potential, Mr. Duong believes that the Titan pigeon breeding model can become an effective direction, not only for his family but also for the whole community. Mr. Duong believes that this model can be replicated and help many rural households escape poverty, gradually improving their lives.

After 25 days of hatching, the chicks can be sold for meat.

Mr. Nguyen Yen Dung - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Quynh Trang Commune, said: Although it has only been in livestock farming for a few years, the Titan commercial pigeon farming model has initially brought quite high economic efficiency. "The Association will research and encourage people to learn and replicate this model, and at the same time find a stable consumption market to help people feel secure in raising livestock," said Mr. Nguyen Yen Dung.

Bird farming techniques are not too difficult, so Mr. Duong believes that people can easily access the model to develop the economy and escape poverty.
