A closer look at the over 337 billion VND bridge project that has come to a standstill.
The Thanh Nam Bridge project is managed by the Investment and Construction Project Management Board of Hoi An City. Spanning the Thu Bon River and connecting Cam Chau and Cam Nam wards (Hoi An City), the bridge was started in 2020 with a total investment of over 337 billion VND.
The bridge is 344m long, with two approach roads totaling nearly 200m. The bridge is designed with 5 spans and a width of two lanes (10.5m including the shoulders).
In March 2023, the People's Committee of Hoi An City held a ceremony to connect the two sections of the bridge, and according to the plan, the entire project was supposed to be completed by August 2023. However, to date, the construction is at a standstill.
Many components of this multi-billion VND project have been abandoned for several months now.
The iron bars on the bridge have rusted.
Speaking to VTC News, Mr. Nguyen Minh Ly, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoi An City, confirmed that the reason for the project's delay was due to land acquisition issues, which prevented the construction of the access road.
Both access roads, located in Cam Chau and Cam Nam wards, are currently blocked by one household on each side. The reason is that these households have not agreed to the compensation plan. The residents claim that the compensation price is only half of the market value, so they are not accepting it.
For some time now, local residents have been eagerly awaiting the day this bridge, costing over 337 billion VND, will become operational, making travel and trade in Hoi An City more convenient.
