According to a reporter in South Africa, the above decision was made by WADA after this facility failed to correct violations related to the International Standards for Laboratory Testing (ISL).

The WADA Laboratory Expert Group (Lab EAG) recommended the revocation of the license and the WADA Executive Committee approved the decision by vote.

The Bloemfontein Laboratory was informed and did not object to the Lab EAG recommendation.

In fact, this laboratory has been suspended since September 2023 due to many problems, including the detection of banned steroids in athlete test samples.

WADA said that if the laboratory wants to resume operations, it must apply for new accreditation under ISL provisions 4.1 and 4.6.6.2.

The decision to revoke the license has been communicated to the national public authorities, national accreditation bodies, National Anti-Doping Organizations, National Olympic Committees, International Federations and the International Olympic Committee, in accordance with the ISL regulations.

Currently, WADA recognizes about 30 laboratories worldwide . Samples from Africa can be sent to laboratories in India, Qatar, Portugal, Spain or Turkey.

However, transporting samples from athlete training centers in remote areas increases the risk of sample decomposition, affecting the testing process./.
