On the afternoon of March 27, at the Presidential Palace, Acting President Vo Thi Anh Xuan received Ms. Carolyn Turk, Country Director of the World Bank (WB) in Vietnam, who paid a farewell visit at the end of her term. During the meeting, Acting President Vo Thi Anh Xuan congratulated Ms. Carolyn Turk on her successful term in Vietnam. The Acting President highly appreciated the WB's active support for many countries in achieving better development, contributing to improving living standards for people, especially in poor and developing countries. The Acting President stated that for the past 30 years, the WB has been a partner and provided practical support during Vietnam's Doi Moi (Renovation) process. For Vietnam, the WB is one of the three largest development partners and providers of foreign loans. These loans have been allocated to various sectors, implementing many highly effective projects that have contributed to improving and enhancing people's lives. In particular, during her tenure in Vietnam, Ms. Carolyn Turk actively promoted cooperation between Vietnam and the World Bank; including very meaningful activities such as: extending loan repayment deadlines; initiating support for countries in preventing and controlling COVID-19; providing non-refundable aid to help Vietnam overcome the pandemic and restore socio-economic development; mobilizing resources for Vietnam's development investment… The Acting President expressed his hope that, with her deep affection and concern for Vietnam, regardless of her position, Ms. Carolyn Turk will continue to contribute her voice to the World Bank to fulfill the commitments between the two sides. The Acting President requested that, in the future, the World Bank continue to cooperate closely and support Vietnam in its development process. The World Bank is helping Vietnam implement key national projects on a large scale in areas such as: transportation infrastructure, urban development, renewable energy, smart agriculture, and climate change response. In addition, the World Bank continues to support grants to help Vietnam fulfill its international commitments to the United Nations related to areas such as: peacekeeping , international security, climate change, sustainable development, water security, and food security. Emphasizing vulnerable groups, remote areas, women, and girls, Acting President Vo Thi Anh Xuan expressed her hope that Vietnam and the World Bank will have more priority programs and projects for these groups in the future. World Bank Country Director for Vietnam Carolyn Turk thanked the Acting President, the Office of the President, and various agencies, ministries, and localities for their support and assistance to the World Bank and herself during her time in Vietnam. Referring to the current global context with its complex and unpredictable developments, wars, and conflicts affecting global trade and impacting Vietnam's socio-economic growth goals, Ms. Carolyn Turk affirmed that the World Bank is ready to accompany Vietnam on its journey to realize its development goals. Stating that the World Bank is developing a document on a Strategic Partnership with the Vietnamese Government, Ms. Carolyn Turk affirmed that the World Bank will work with the Vietnamese Government in the near future to concretize this content, especially regarding funding support for Vietnam during the 2023-2027 period.
