The second qualifying round of the 2025 Ho Chi Minh City Billiards World Cup took place on May 20 at Nguyen Du Stadium (District 1), with the participation of 13 Vietnamese players. The home team's players continued to have a successful competition day, when 9 names won tickets to the third qualifying round.
Top of the table thanks to good scoring performance
Among the 9 Vietnamese players who passed the second qualifying round, Nguyen Hoai Phong was the youngest. Previously, the player born in 2003 left a strong impression in his first appearance at the World Cup billiards arena, when he passed the first qualifying round (May 19) with a perfect record of winning both matches.
In the second qualifying round, Hoai Phong continued to impress when he defeated French player Adrien Tachoire with a score difference of 30-10, after 16 turns. The 22-year-old player's good score (points/turn) helped him gain an advantage before the decisive match. In the final match, Nguyen Hoai Phong, despite losing to Japan's top player Takao Miyashita (with a score of 26-30), still won a ticket to the next round. The young Vietnamese player with a record of 1 win, 1 loss still ranked first in the group thanks to his best average scoring efficiency.
Nguyen Hoai Phong has continuously impressed, participating in the 3rd qualifying round of the Ho Chi Minh City Billiards World Cup 2025. This is the first time the player born in 2003 has appeared in the UMB Billiards World Cup arena.

Specifically, Nguyen Hoai Phong scored 46 points after only 41 shots, achieving an average efficiency of 1.400. Meanwhile, Takao Miyashita also had a record of 1 win and 1 loss, also scoring 56 points but needed a total of 51 shots, achieving an average efficiency of 1.098.
Many Vietnamese players in the 3rd qualifying round of the Ho Chi Minh City Billiards World Cup
Besides Nguyen Hoai Phong, Vietnamese players who passed the second qualifying round to participate in the third qualifying round of the Ho Chi Minh City Billiards World Cup 2025 include: Nguyen Chi Long, Nguyen Dinh Quoc, Nguyen Nhu Le, Doan Minh Kiet, Nguyen Minh Luan, Truong Quang Hao, Ngo Le Duy and Le Quoc Ho.
Nguyen Chi Long started from the second qualifying round. He also won a ticket to the third qualifying round of the 2025 Ho Chi Minh City Billiards World Cup.

In addition, Dao Van Ly is scheduled to play from the third qualifying round thanks to his position on the World Carom Billiards Federation (UMB) rankings. Thus, there are 10 Vietnamese players who will compete in the third qualifying round of the Ho Chi Minh City Billiards World Cup 2025.
The third qualifying round also has 48 players, divided equally into 16 groups. The players will compete in a round robin to calculate points and rank, with a draw. Accordingly, the top 16 players in the group will qualify for the fourth qualifying round (the final qualifying round) of the 2025 Ho Chi Minh City Billiards World Cup. The third qualifying round of the 2025 Ho Chi Minh City Billiards World Cup will compete on May 21, at Nguyen Du Stadium (District 1).
The 2025 Ho Chi Minh City 3-Cushion Carom Billiards World Cup will take place from May 19 to 25 at Nguyen Du Stadium (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Billiards & Snooker Federation (HBSF). The tournament will have the participation of 149 players, including the world's top superstars. The champion of the 2025 Ho Chi Minh City 3-Cushion Carom Billiards World Cup will receive 16,000 euros (about 467 million VND), the runner-up will receive 10,000 euros (about 291 million VND), and the two third-place players will receive a prize of 6,000 euros each (about 175 million VND).
