Speaking at the conference, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Health Vu Cao Cuong emphasized that tobacco is one of the leading preventable causes of disease and death. Tobacco smoke contains thousands of toxic chemicals, many of which are carcinogens, leading to dangerous cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, lung cancer, and many other illnesses.
According to Mr. Vu Cao Cuong, passive smoking not only directly affects smokers but also seriously harms those around them, especially women, children, and the elderly. Besides the health consequences, tobacco use also causes significant economic losses for each family and society as a whole.

Notably, in recent times, e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products with attractive designs have been increasingly infiltrating the youth market, posing numerous risks to the health and development of future generations. This is a worrying issue that requires coordinated action from the entire political system and society as a whole.
At the conference, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC Hanoi), Dao Huu Than, reported on the current state of tobacco control efforts and analyzed the negative impacts of smoking on public health.

In response to the event, the Vice Chairman of Hat Mon Commune People's Committee, To Xuan Quan, called on all officials, Party members, and the people to continue promoting awareness of the harmful effects of tobacco, e-cigarettes, and heated tobacco products; to strengthen the strict enforcement of legal regulations on tobacco harm prevention and control; and to build and maintain a smoke-free environment in offices, schools, health stations, and public places.
At the same time, the commune encouraged officials and Party members to set a good example by not smoking; actively support relatives and colleagues in quitting smoking; and mobilize the participation of departments, organizations, and the people to create a widespread, regular, and continuous movement for community health.

At the conclusion of the conference, delegates and local people participated in a walking parade to commemorate World No Tobacco Day and National No Tobacco Week 2026, contributing to spreading the message of building a safe, civilized, and smoke-free living environment.
