Every time it rains, even if it is not too heavy, this spillway quickly becomes deeply flooded, the current is strong, posing many potential risks to people and vehicles, especially teachers and students on their way to school.

According to local people, in the past 2 years, especially after the impact of storm No. 3 ( Yagi ) in 2024, this area has been frequently flooded during heavy rains. In recent days, nearly 20 kindergarten, primary and secondary school students in Ban Hon village could not go to class; dozens of high school students were late for school or forced to stay home because they could not cross the stream.

Provincial Road 153 connects National Highway 279 with Nghia Do and Ban Lien communes, with thousands of people and vehicles passing through every day. Due to frequent flooding, the Nghia Do commune authorities had to send militia to guard and direct traffic, and mobilize strong young men to help carry motorbikes and help people cross the stream safely.
Recently, Nghia Do commune has coordinated with Lao Cai Road Management Company to clear the flow, but the dredging has not been effective due to the large amount of buried soil, rocks, and garbage, while the upstream water flow is very strong.
Mr. Do Van Luu, Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghia Do Commune, said: Hopefully in the near future, the province will pay attention to upgrading this spillway bridge into a rigid bridge to ensure smooth traffic. This is the main route connecting Nghia Do Commune with Tan Tien Commune (old) and Ban Lien Commune. When floods occur, traffic is congested, posing a potential danger to people, especially students going to school.
The construction of a rigid bridge to replace the current spillway is extremely urgent. The government and people of Nghia Do commune hope that all levels will soon pay attention to investment and build embankments to protect the fields so that people can stabilize their lives.
