Businesses and consumers must protect themselves.

Recently, the situation of counterfeit, fake and poor quality goods has been increasing, causing concern for consumers and directly affecting the reputation of businesses. In Hue City, the authorities have repeatedly inspected and discovered cases of trading cosmetics, functional foods, clothes and electronic goods of unknown origin.

Ms. Pham Thi Hoa (Phu Xuan Ward) said that her family often uses products related to milk, functional foods... to take care of their health. However, the cases of fake, counterfeit, and poor quality products that the authorities have cracked down on in recent times have made her worried. Therefore, she carefully considers the purchase and use of current products.

The director of a textile and garment enterprise in Hue said that his company had had its products counterfeited and brought to the market with low quality. Consumers had difficulty distinguishing between real and fake products, so they misjudged the brand. To gain trust from customers, the enterprise always strives to invest in technology, build new identification systems, and expand official distribution channels...

According to Dr. Hoang Thi Bach Yen, Deputy Head of the Faculty of Public Health, University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University, the harm of counterfeit and fake goods in food and pharmaceuticals is very dangerous, because it is difficult for people to verify the quality. "The consequences are not only economic losses but also directly related to health, even human life. Therefore, along with the control of functional agencies, enterprises need to improve their responsibility in production and business; consumers also have to change their shopping habits, choosing products with brands and clear origins."

Business culture - sustainable foundation

From the perspective of researchers, Dr. Cung Trong Cuong, Director of the Hue City Development Research Institute, shared: Hue has become a centrally-run city. If the business community does not build a culture of honest and responsible business, it will be difficult to create an attractive and sustainable investment environment. Building business ethics is not only a matter of self-awareness of businesses but also requires policy orientation and incentive mechanisms. Local Business Associations should play the role of a "bridge", creating a forum for businesses to share experiences and commit to sustainable development together.

Sharing this view, Mr. Do Ngoc Co, Chairman of Hue City Tourism Association, Director of Green Viet Tourism Company Limited emphasized: “In the tourism industry, reputation and transparency are the greatest assets. If a unit deceives customers for short-term profits, the consequences will not only stop at the enterprise but also affect the image of Hue. We identify developing green services, connecting the community, and improving customer experience as the way to long-term, sustainable development”.

Hue City has issued many programs to support businesses in digital transformation, encouraging the application of green and clean standards. This is in line with the general international development trend, and at the same time creates a foundation for Hue businesses to affirm their brands in the market.

According to Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Pham Tan Cong, although the Vietnamese business community has gradually developed, there are still a number of entrepreneurs and businesses with the mindset of getting rich and seeking profits illegally. This can be clearly seen in the recent cases discovered, especially in food and medicine. The Chairman of VCCI said that building business ethics and culture is a big task and the foundation for sustainable private economic development. The Government has assigned the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to develop a project on business ethics and culture. VCCI recommends that the Government and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism should promote the participation of the business community when developing this project. In addition, VCCI is also proactively implementing the building of business ethics and culture by issuing a code of ethics for entrepreneurs and businesses from 2023; At the same time, we are ready to take on the task of developing and implementing the above project, making business ethics and culture a new strength for Vietnamese entrepreneurs and enterprises.

In early June 2025, VCCI launched the Program for Evaluating and Announcing Sustainable Enterprises in Vietnam - CSI 2025 to recognize, encourage and commend enterprises that practice good sustainable production and business activities.
