Implementing the policy of merging administrative units, the new Ky Son ward was established on the basis of merging the old Ky Son ward, Mong Hoa commune and Doc Lap commune. This is a ward with a large natural area and a large population, with 65% of the population being Muong and Dao ethnic groups living in 30 residential areas.
Mr. Nguyen Trung Thong - expert of the Department of Culture and Society of Ky Son Ward said: In recent years, the government of Ky Son Ward (old) and the communes before the merger have clearly identified building cultural life in residential areas as the central task to unite the community, raise citizen awareness and preserve traditional values. In a new administrative entity, the challenge is to both preserve traditional cultural identity and improve the quality of spiritual life for the people.
Officials and people of Residential Group No. 9, Ky Son Ward discuss work on preserving cultural values in the area.
In residential areas, the movement “All people unite to build a cultural life” has been widely implemented in recent times. Many hamlet cultural houses have been renovated and newly built to meet the needs of community activities. In the former hamlets of Mong Hoa commune, many community activity points have been invested in synchronously with sports grounds, cultural houses and lighting systems. These spaces have become places to organize festivals, cultural activities, law dissemination sessions and exchange of production and child-rearing experiences.
A bright spot in the movement to build a new cultural life is Residential Group No. 9 - a typical residential area in Ky Son Ward. Mr. Nguyen Van Huu - Head of Residential Group No. 9 shared: The group has 163 households and 823 people. In recent years, the group's cultural, artistic and sports activities have developed strongly. Major national and local holidays are held. The group's cultural house is 150 square meters wide, a place for community activities of officials and people in the area. The group has a gong team to preserve national identity, gathering all ages to participate with 12 members actively practicing and teaching the younger generation. When the ward has activities, the team actively participates in performances. In addition, many cultural, artistic and sports activities are organized enthusiastically, contributing to improving the material and spiritual life of the people. In 2024, the average income of the group will reach 85 million VND/person; 97% of households are recognized as cultural families.
Ky Son Ward attaches special importance to preserving traditional values, in which the role of folk artists and prestigious people in the ethnic minority community is strongly promoted. Typically, Meritorious Artist Dinh Thi Thao - a daughter of the Muong ethnic group is one of the typical examples in teaching folk songs, ancient melodies and traditional rituals to the younger generation.
Not only focusing on cultural activities, Ky Son ward also launched a movement to beautify the environment and build bright - green - clean - beautiful streets. Residential areas regularly organize cleaning campaigns, plant trees, and hang national flags on holidays and Tet. Funerals, weddings, and festivals are gradually put into order, carried out in a civilized and economical manner...
In particular, during the merger process, the ward is perfecting cultural institutions according to urban criteria. The highland hamlets in the old Doc Lap commune have initially received investment in electricity, roads, schools, and stations. People have more convenient access to public services, health care, and education . Children have a spacious place to study. The elderly have a place to exercise and participate in cultural activities...
It can be affirmed that building a new cultural life in Ky Son ward after the merger is not only an infrastructure problem but also a journey to awaken the strength of the community. From the Muong and Dao hamlets to the residential groups, each activity of preserving cultural identity and building residential areas contributes to creating a humane, modern and cohesive living environment. This is the way for Ky Son to both develop the urban area and preserve the soul of the homeland.
