Building a pilot model of growing green ramie (Boehmeria nivea (L.) Gaud) for fiber and organic fertilizer production in Dak Lak province

On the morning of October 3, 2025, at Buon Ma Thuot ward, the Department of Science and Technology of Dak Lak province organized a Council to accept the provincial-level science and technology project "Building a pilot model of growing green ramie (Boehmeria nivea (L.) Gaud) for fiber and organic fertilizer production in Dak Lak province".

Overview of the Acceptance Council

The project is chaired by the Center for Information - Application of Science and Technology (Department of Science and Technology of Dak Lak province), the project manager is MSc. Nguyen Binh Doan.

Hemp (Boehmeria nivea L. Gaud ) is one of the valuable fiber plants grown mainly in tropical and temperate countries such as China, Korea, Philippines, India. Hemp fiber has many valuable properties compared to other fiber plants such as gloss, smoothness, high fiber length and strength, in particular, hemp fiber has the highest durability among plant fibers, has antibacterial properties, good moisture resistance and is not susceptible to mold.

The research objective of the topic is: to build a pilot model of growing green ramie (Boehmeria nivea (L.) Gaud) for fiber, evaluate the feasibility and economic efficiency in the ecological regions of Dak Lak province, contributing to adding new crops to the local agricultural crop structure.

As a result, the project has completed the research contents as explained and achieved the set objectives: completed the construction of a pilot planting model of AP1 Green Hemp variety in Dak Lak province and proposed a technical process for planting and caring for Green Hemp suitable for the growing area; completed and proposed a technical process for separating Green Hemp fiber on a household scale; completed and proposed a technical process for producing organic fertilizer from post-harvest by-products, processing Green Hemp fiber and organized a scientific workshop on planting, caring, harvesting and pre-processing Green Hemp in Dak Lak province.

After listening to the Management Board report on the results of the project implementation, the Council organized to collect comments and suggestions from the Council members for the Management Board to complete the report and the project products. The Council evaluated the project as highly feasible, with the ability to apply and replicate the raw material area in Dak Lak province; at the same time, voted to approve the acceptance with the result that 100% of the Council members evaluated the project as qualified.
