At least 14 people were killed and more than 20 others injured, some seriously, when a passenger bus crashed in Chakwal district of eastern Punjab province on June 17, Pakistani police said.
According to Deputy Inspector General of National Highways and Highways Police Muhammad Yusuf Malik, the incident took place on the highway near Kallar Kahar area of Chakwal district when the driver was unable to control the speed due to brake failure, causing the vehicle to overturn and causing the tragic accident. At least five women and three children were among the victims.

After receiving the information, Pakistani police and rescue forces immediately deployed to the scene and took the injured to a nearby hospital.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed his deep condolences over the loss of life in the accident. He also directed the Pakistani authorities to report specifically on the cause of the tragic accident and to provide the best medical care to the injured.
