Often referred to as the "mini Sahara Desert" of Binh Thuan , Bau Trang is located in Hong Lam village, Hoa Thang commune, Bac Binh district. The book Dai Nam Nhat Thong Chi (Comprehensive Gazetteer of Dai Nam) describes Bau Trang, stating: "Bau Trang has two lakes, an upper lake and a lower lake. The upper lake has a circumference of 8 li, the lower lake has a circumference of 22 li; the water in the lakes is fresh and remains constant throughout the year."

Amidst a barren, hot, and lifeless sandy landscape, Bau Trang is blessed by nature with hundreds of hectares of low-lying coastal forests and freshwater lakes stretching across the vast expanse of white sand, thus creating a mild climate. At the same time, the contrast between sand and water, between aridity and refreshing water that revitalizes everything, between heat and cold, creates a captivating beauty imbued with the philosophy of yin and yang, a beauty of desert and oasis.

Besides its inherent natural beauty, Bau Trang also boasts the famous and sacred Thien YA Na temple, located about 100 meters south of the Bau Ba shore. Before the 18th century, many Cham villages were located around Bau Trang. When the Vietnamese settled there, they took over the Po Inu Nugar temple and Vietnamized the indigenous Cham beliefs into the Thien YA Na temple.

Not only is it a source of drinking water, Bau Trang is also a natural scenic spot that attracts a large number of domestic and international tourists to enjoy and explore. With its vast, sprawling sand dunes and large lake, visitors can participate in many outdoor activities such as sandboarding, ostrich riding, fishing, or leisurely sitting on a dugout canoe circling the lake to admire the lotus flowers, always feeling relaxed and peaceful.

With its captivating and unspoiled beauty, Bau Trang has become an attractive destination for both domestic and international tourists over the years. The Bau Trang area has also been awarded numerous titles, including Top 100 Impressive Destinations in Vietnam 2013; ASEAN Favorite Destination 2014; Top 100 Favorite Tourist Destinations in the Southern Region 2016; and was ranked a National Scenic Site by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2019.
