Admission results by methods in 2023
The difference in high school graduation exam results between the two groups of candidates is over 3 points.
At the admission conference, Director of the Department of Higher Education Nguyen Thu Thuy summarized 9 years of admission innovation from 2015 to present. In particular, the 2023 admission results have many notable points.
According to the summary data of the Ministry of Education and Training, in 2023, the whole country will have 1,022,063 candidates taking the high school graduation exam. Of the total 663,063 university and college enrollment targets for preschool education, 546,686 candidates have been admitted, reaching 82.45% of the target and 53.12% of the total number of candidates taking the exam.
Director of the Department of Higher Education Nguyen Thu Thuy also analyzed the results of university admission by two main admission methods in the 2023 enrollment. Specifically, the Department of Higher Education has conducted statistics on two groups of candidates admitted by considering their academic records and considering their high school graduation exam scores. At the same time, they compared the high school graduation exam results of these two groups of candidates.
The results of comparing the high school graduation exam scores of the two groups of candidates show that 60% of candidates admitted by their transcripts had a total high school graduation exam score of about 20 points for a combination of 3 subjects. Meanwhile, 60% of candidates admitted by considering high school graduation exam scores had a high school graduation exam score of 3 subjects above 23 points. Thus, the difference in high school graduation exam results of these two groups of candidates is over 3 points.
Two options for high school graduation exam date in 2024
From that, Director Nguyen Thu Thuy pointed out, it can be seen that basically, high school graduation exam scores still have better classification when considering university admission. "We recommend that when considering admission by considering academic records, we should use an additional entrance threshold using high school graduation exam results. Then, the fairness between the two groups of candidates will increase in the following years," said the Director of the Department of Higher Education.
There is an admission method that no candidate registered for.
Admission methods are a "hot" issue at this year's admission conference. Department Head Nguyen Thu Thuy said that universities have used many admission methods in the past year. This has led to information confusion, with some admission methods having no candidates registered or no candidates passing. The use of many methods without a basis for comparative analysis and no scientific basis has not ensured fairness for candidates. Most training institutions have not analyzed learning outcomes and admission results.
The highest proportion of candidates admitted by considering high school graduation exam scores is still based on the method of considering high school transcripts, followed by considering high school transcripts. According to the Ministry's statistics on admission results in 2023, candidates admitted by considering high school graduation exam results account for nearly 50%. Ranking second is the method of considering high school academic results (considering transcripts) with over 30%.
"The ability and thinking assessment exams only account for 2.5%. This data shows that the separate exams have not played a major role in the total number of successful candidates nationwide," shared the Director of the Department of Higher Education.
Early admission results 2023
Regarding early admission, Department Head Nguyen Thu Thuy said: "More and more universities are competing to conduct early admission, currently 214/322 training institutions have announced early admission". However, out of a total of over 375,500 candidates admitted through early admission, only over 147,000 candidates registered for their first choice (admitted after virtual filtering). This means that, according to the representative of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training), less than 40% of candidates decided to enroll through early admission.
