Xiaomi has officially introduced a new smart glasses with a simple name: Xiaomi AI Glasses. This is not a virtual reality device like Apple Vision Pro but will be a notable competitor to the AI glasses models of Ray-Ban and Meta which have similar prices.

First, let's talk about the camera and video recording capabilities. Xiaomi says the Xiaomi AI Glasses are equipped with a 12MP f/2.2 aperture camera, using the Sony IMX681 image sensor. Users can take quick photos in just 0.8 seconds or record 2K video at 30 frames per second for up to 10 minutes. The glasses also feature electronic image stabilization (EIS) to stabilize images when recording or shooting.

In terms of operating performance, Xiaomi AI Glasses are equipped with AI features built into HyperOS. Xiaomi said that HyperOS combined with HyperAI technology allows the glasses to recognize the surrounding environment and support smart tasks.

Users can ask about the calories in a dish, turn off the lights in the house, or pay by looking at a scanner. Users will no longer need to use their hands or open their phones to perform these operations, which is so convenient.

Xiaomi AI Glasses is equipped with a Qualcomm AR1 chip, optimized for augmented reality (AR) tasks. It is capable of processing images from the camera, running AI models to recognize objects and voices, and managing the display of information. Using a dedicated chip reduces latency and saves energy compared to using a conventional mobile chip.

XiaoAI Assistant is another core part of Xiaomi AI Glasses. XiaoAI has been integrated into many Xiaomi devices, from phones to smart speakers, and bringing XiaoAI to the glasses creates consistency in the user experience. User data and habits on other devices can be applied to personalize the assistant's suggestions and responses on the glasses.

On the software side, features like real-time translation require natural language processing and optical character recognition (OCR). When a user looks at a piece of text, the camera captures an image. The OCR system converts that image into digital text. The translation engine then processes and displays the results.

QR code scanning works on a similar principle. The camera recognizes the QR code, extracts the information contained within it (usually a link or payment information), and then forwards it to the corresponding app to complete the transaction.

The Xiaomi AI Glasses also support video calling, live streaming, and real-time language translation. At launch, a total of 14 popular apps were supported, including TikTok (or Douyin in China). The glasses have built-in speakers for playing music and five microphones for recording audio during meetings, classes, or seminars.

The standard Xiaomi AI Glasses will cost around $280, available in tortoiseshell black, brown, and blue. The special edition will cost $380, and will come in monochrome and multicolor options. The glasses are currently available in China. There is no information on when they will be available globally.
