Xiaomi founder Lei Jun recently revealed a major milestone for the company: the official opening of its smart factory in Changping, Beijing. This is not just any ordinary factory, but it boasts an in-house developed production line capable of producing over 10 million flagship smartphones per year.
It can be seen that this factory is not only a production unit but also a beacon of innovation, representing a significant leap forward in Xiaomi's ambition towards smart manufacturing.

But what exactly makes this factory so smart and modern? It boasts an incredible 96.8% in-house development rate for packaging equipment and component testing equipment, and 100% of its factory software is developed by Xiaomi itself. This level of development is coupled with a highly digitized and automated production process that is capable of self-analysis and decision-making based on real-time data.
Experts say the Xuong Binh factory represents Xiaomi's significant investment in smart manufacturing and automation, underscoring Xiaomi's commitment to accelerating smartphone production that combines cutting-edge technology with large-scale manufacturing capabilities, all geared toward optimizing the consumer experience.
This is not Xiaomi’s first foray into smart manufacturing. The company’s first smart factory, located in the Yizhuang area of Beijing, began operations in late 2019. However, the new smart factory in Changping far surpasses its predecessor in scale, boasting a scale 10 times larger, and includes a second-generation smart production line for smartphones.
The line covers everything from circuit board assembly and testing, to final assembly, packaging and shipping, with an estimated output value of up to 60 billion yuan per year.
