The project "Elimination of violence against women and children in Vietnam, 2021 - 2025" (EVAWC Project) implemented by UN Women, UNFPA and UNICEF with funding from the Australian Government since 2021 has brought many humanistic meanings and values to Vietnam.

Speaking at the program, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Quang Nam affirmed that Da Nang City has implemented many projects with United Nations agencies with the recipients being women and children. Specifically, the UNICEF Child-Friendly City Initiative project, the Initiative Project to Build Da Nang into a Safe and Non-Violent City for Women and Children of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women)...

In addition to cooperation projects, Da Nang city always pays attention to social security issues, effectively implementing programs and plans on protecting women and children in the city such as implementing Directive No. 39-CT/TU on building a safe city - free of violence against women and children, Decision No. 1006/QD-UBND on the Project "Building a safe Da Nang city - free of violence against women and children in the period 2021 - 2025, vision to 2035". In particular, the city has mobilized many resources to support women and children, thereby contributing to the implementation of the Project and towards the goal of building a peaceful, civilized and livable Da Nang city.

Many good models mobilize community participation in preventing violence against women and children such as the "Men pioneers in preventing violence against women and girls" club, the "Safe waiting point after school" model, "Support for picking up and dropping off children", "Rapid response team to prevent domestic violence", "Network of consultants on prevention and response to violence against women and children", website "Child protection and mental health and psychosocial care". These models and projects have also been effective in the past, in line with the common goal of building a safe city without violence against women and children.

In 2023, Da Nang was officially recognized by UN Women as the 2nd city in Vietnam, the 56th city in the world from 31 countries officially participating in the Global Mainstream Initiative Program "Safe Cities and Safe Public Spaces by 2023."

Overview of the working session

At the program, representatives of departments and organizations UNFPA, UNICEF, UN Women, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Australian Federal Government discussed solutions to support Da Nang in implementing practical and effective projects, aiming to protect the legitimate rights and interests of women and children.

Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Da Nang city Hoang Thi Thu Huong said that in the past time, the city has organized many pilot models and their effectiveness has been replicated by the province, such as: Reliable Address (375 addresses), "Shelter"; "Safe House"; "Men Pioneers in Prevention and Response to Violence Against Women and Children" Club (20 Clubs), Happy Family Building Club, Network of Counselors on Prevention and Response to Violence Against Women and Children (50 members), Rapid Response Team", "Orange - Speak Up When You Need It", "Safe Pick-up Point"; "Safe Waiting Point - Accompanying Me".

The Women's Union in collaboration with the Department of Transport launched a pilot of 02 safe bus stops in Hai Chau and Thanh Khe districts. This is a new initiative to strengthen communication, raise awareness and call for community participation in preventing and responding to violence and abuse against women and children in public places and on public transport. With the main orange color and the message "Speak up, denounce acts of violence and abuse for a safe Da Nang city without violence against women and children", emergency contact information and consultation contacts are clearly displayed on the bus stop. In particular, a list of trusted addresses is provided in the form of QR codes, helping people easily access information when needed.

Along with the technical support and resources of UN Women, in the coming time, the Women's Union will continue to advise and propose the city to develop software to support searching and accessing reliable addresses in emergency situations, while improving the effectiveness of monitoring and coordination of functional agencies in the work of preventing and responding to violence and abuse against women and children.

In addition, the City People's Committee is proposed to focus on safe public space models, such as safe beaches, safe parks, safe and friendly bus stops; establish a "One-stop interdisciplinary model" located at the headquarters of the Women's Union. The purpose of this model is to provide initial support to women and children who are victims of violence and abuse; cases that need to be sued will be linked to the judiciary or those who are mentally disturbed will be referred to psychological counselors. These models aim to strengthen the solid corridor infrastructure to help victims become more and more empowered in speaking out against acts of violence and abuse; at the same time, contribute to the city in building a truly peaceful, humane and sustainable living environment.
