With the theme "The Future of Publishing in the Digital Age," the 2025 Digital Publishing Forum, organized by Alpha Books in collaboration with the Vietnam Digital Content Creation Alliance and the Digital Copyright Center, under the patronage of the Vietnam Digital Communication Association (VDCA), brought together managers, technology experts, and businesses to analyze the crucial issues for the publishing industry to truly transform, not just talk about digital transformation.

Dr. Nguyen Minh Hong, President of VDCA, believes that digital publishing is a historic opportunity to promote a new reading culture, enhance competitiveness, and connect global knowledge. However, it also presents growing challenges from artificial intelligence (AI) and copyright infringement.

From the perspective of a pioneering enterprise, Mr. Nguyen Canh Binh, Chairman of Alpha Books, stated: “In the past, publishing was about printing books. Today, it is a personalized, interactive journey, constantly updating information through digital formats such as ebooks, flashcards, microlearning…”. Mr. Binh emphasized that digital publishing not only helps reduce costs and shorten the intermediary chain but also makes it easier for everyone to access knowledge.

The forum also outlined five strategic directions for Vietnam's publishing industry: keeping up with global trends; integrating new technologies such as AI, blockchain, and big data; connecting links in the content value chain; encouraging innovation; and building a digital publishing ecosystem owned by Vietnamese people.

Many experts agree that digital publishing is a global "gold mine," with worldwide revenue reaching $120 billion per year. However, in Vietnam, this "gold mine" has not been effectively exploited due to technological obstacles, conservative thinking, and especially the uncontrolled problem of copyright infringement.

From a potential "gold mine" to actual exploitation is a long and arduous journey. But if we don't start today, the Vietnamese publishing industry will be left behind. Digital publishing, a knowledge revolution, has arrived. The remaining question is: do we have the courage to cross this threshold of transformation?
