Is FPT Play, a service offered by FPT Telecom, exclusive or is it the sole holder of the broadcasting rights for the English Premier League in Vietnam?

Immediately after FPT Play announced that it had acquired the broadcasting rights for the English Premier League in Vietnam from 2026 until the end of the 2030-2031 season, many social media sites spread information that this service was exclusive, similar to how K+ television has done it in the past.

Tuổi Trẻ Online spoke with Mr. Hoàng Việt Anh, Chairman of FPT Telecom, FPT Group , to clarify the above information.

FPT Play does not have exclusive rights to the English Premier League.

* In the press release, FPT Play announced a strategic partnership with Jasmine International Public Company Limited (JAS) and Monomax, the official and exclusive rights holder for broadcasting the English Premier League in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Could you elaborate on this partnership?

- Jasmine International Public Company Limited (JAS) is one of Thailand's leading companies in the technology, media, and telecommunications sectors. JAS holds the exclusive broadcasting rights for the Premier League and Emirates FA Cup in Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. We have signed a 5.5-season broadcasting rights cooperation agreement with JAS for Vietnam.

* Does this mean FPT Play does not have exclusive broadcasting rights for the English Premier League in Vietnam?

- In the contract signed with JAS/Monomax, FPT Telecom was the sole owner (at the time of signing) and entitled to share the broadcasting rights for the English Premier League in Vietnam.

FPT Telecom and JAS have both agreed to expand cooperation opportunities with other entities in Vietnam to make the English Premier League more accessible to the public. Therefore, FPT Telecom is fully capable of sharing broadcasting rights with interested parties.

* Could you be more specific about how you will share copyright with interested parties?

- Our goal is to bring the English Premier League to every home. Based on that, we have a policy of sharing the league's broadcasting rights with domestic partners.

However, we will also make calculations and refresh our business plan compared to the current state of Premier League broadcasting, as K+ is doing now. We will not only focus on branding but also on reaching the largest possible audience.

Therefore, we also plan to negotiate with our partners so that when sharing copyrights, we hope that all parties will have a common commitment to reaching a large audience and fan community.

Challenges related to copyright issues.

* The English Premier League is currently facing serious copyright infringement online; what are the solutions to prevent this?

Copyright infringement is a prominent issue in the Vietnamese market. Any content, from entertainment to sports , especially elite sports, faces this difficult problem.

FPT Play also has experience and strengths in applying technology to copyright protection. Therefore, we are actively combining the application of technology with coordination with state agencies and relevant parties to address this issue.

Furthermore, we believe that one of the best ways to reduce piracy is to implement a reasonable pricing policy that makes it easier for Vietnamese people to access the English Premier League.

When the price is affordable, the quality of the tournament and service are good, we believe that fans will support the providers, working together to combat the rampant piracy in the market.

In addition, we are actively coordinating with relevant authorities and government agencies to develop effective copyright protection strategies.

* Traditional live streaming methods seem to be losing their appeal to a large number of young users. Will FPT Play introduce any new technologies now that it has the broadcasting rights for the most exciting tournament on the planet?

- To create an engaging and enjoyable experience for Premier League viewers, FPT Play has also planned to update new features in addition to existing prominent features such as user personalization, Live Chat, reaction sharing, multi-threaded commentary, etc. The company plans to upgrade the personalization feature specifically for fans of each team.

For example, after setting up a favorite club, the username on Live Chat will be displayed along with the team's emblem. This not only helps fans proudly show their team's colors but also greatly supports connecting the fan community when watching live Premier League matches.

FPT Play also plans to implement a Jump Back feature, allowing users to easily "jump" to and rewatch exactly the memorable moments they missed during the match, providing convenience in their viewing experience.
