VnExpressVnExpress11/10/2023

If trade agreements are well utilized, rice exports this year could reach over 4 billion USD, and fruit and vegetable exports over 5 billion USD, according to the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The above information was shared by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien at the international exhibition specializing in livestock, animal feed and aquaculture on the morning of October 11 in Ho Chi Minh City.

According to Mr. Tien, agriculture is the foundation of the economy . Products in the industry are increasingly gaining a foothold in the international market. Vietnam has only 11 million hectares of agricultural land but ensures a good role in domestic food security and supply to the world.

He cited that in the first 9 months of the year, Vietnam produced 33.6 million tons of rice, of which 6.5 million tons were exported, reaching 3.6 billion USD. Vietnam's rice export price ranked first in the world . Similarly, fruit and vegetable exports reached 4.2 billion USD for the first time. Particularly, coffee, cashew nuts, and livestock product exports also grew by 2-26% compared to the same period last year.

Data from businesses also shows that there is still a large opportunity for rice exports from now until the end of the year as countries are still increasing rice imports for reserves. Of which, Indonesia is opening bids for 500,000 tons of rice, the Philippines has increased purchases again after the order to remove the rice price ceiling. Notably, rice production in Malaysia still needs to import up to 30% to ensure domestic consumption and reserve requirements. For coffee, pepper, and vegetables, demand from the Chinese, American, and European markets is high, so these products continue to make breakthroughs in the last months of the year.

In the coming time, to promote the development of domestic consumption and export markets, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is continuing to negotiate to bring many official export products to the markets of China, the US, the EU...

The ministry is supporting businesses to take advantage of international trade agreements to boost exports of key agricultural, forestry and fishery products to many markets. "With positive moves, the agricultural and livestock groups will set new records this year. Of which, rice exports could reach over 4 billion USD, and fruit and vegetable exports over 5 billion USD," said Mr. Tien.

In the context of a rapidly growing global population and increasing demand for food in terms of quantity and quality, the Ministry's leaders encourage businesses to apply technology to processing and production to increase productivity. The international exhibition on livestock equipment in Ho Chi Minh City is an opportunity for businesses to get closer to modern technologies that are suitable for consumer needs around the world.

In addition, climate change is affecting the global food supply situation, so businesses investing in the agricultural sector need to develop according to a green, circular economic model to reduce emissions and protect the environment.

Statistics from the Ministry show that Vietnam's total pig herd reached 29.1 million heads - ranking 5th in the world in terms of total herd; waterfowl ranked 2nd in the world with over 100 million heads; industrial animal feed output reached 21.5 million tons - ranking 1st in Southeast Asia. Vietnam is the 3rd largest rice exporter in the world and the largest honey exporter to the US market.

The leading exhibition on livestock, animal feed, aquaculture and meat processing in Vietnam took place from October 11-13 at SECC, District 7 (HCMC). The exhibition had the participation of more than 350 units, attracting more than 11,000 visitors from more than 30 countries and territories.
