Durian is the fruit that contributes the most to Vietnam's total fruit and vegetable export turnover.

Specifically, in August, fruit and vegetable export turnover reached 464.47 million USD, up 14.8% compared to July. Accumulated statistics in the past 8 months, fruit and vegetable export turnover reached 3.55 billion USD, up 61.8% over the same period in 2022.

Notably, the export turnover of fruits and vegetables in the first 8 months was 3.36 billion USD higher than the total turnover of the whole year of 2022.

On the other hand, in August, Vietnam spent more than 186 million USD to import fruits and vegetables, bringing the total import turnover of fruits and vegetables in the first 8 months to 1.27 billion USD, up only 1% over the same period in 2022. Thus, in the first 8 months of this year, the fruit and vegetable industry had a trade surplus of over 2.1 billion USD.

In the past 8 months, Vietnam has spent 1.27 billion USD to import fruits and vegetables.

According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, durian, dragon fruit, banana, jackfruit, and mango are the most exported fresh fruits, contributing a large part of the total export value of the entire industry.

In addition, exports of processed fruit and vegetable products have recorded strong growth. Previously, statistics for the first 7 months of this year showed that the export value of processed fruit and vegetable products reached 677 million USD, an increase of more than 20% over the same period in 2022.

Through analysis of the import market, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development believes that fruit and vegetable exports from now until the end of the year will have many opportunities and favorable conditions to continue growing. Recently, the US has granted Vietnam a license to export fresh coconuts (shelled). This is also a product that is expected to be exported strongly in the near future.

In addition, banana exports to markets such as Japan, Korea, the Middle East... are increasing compared to the same period in 2022, which will contribute to increasing the export turnover of the fruit and vegetable industry.

Speaking to Thanh Nien, Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, said that according to information from businesses, fruit and vegetable exports in September remained stable and grew quite well. It is forecasted that by the end of September, fruit and vegetable export turnover will reach about 4.2 billion USD.

Mr. Nguyen added that according to market rules, there are many festivals and New Year's at the end of the year, so the demand for imported fruits and vegetables in many countries also increases sharply, including China - Vietnam's largest export market.

"It is forecasted that if fruit and vegetable exports continue to be favorable as in recent months, the export turnover of fruit and vegetable products this year could reach 5.3 - 5.5 billion USD," said Mr. Nguyen./.
