Together, united

Over the past few days, communes in western Nghe An have been struggling to bear the heavy consequences of heavy rain and floods. Many houses and schools have been swept away, property has been lost, and people’s lives have been in dire straits.

Teachers from Hung Thinh Kindergarten traveled more than 100km to Chi Khe Kindergarten to help overcome the consequences of floods.

At Chi Khe Kindergarten (Con Cuong Commune), the early morning flood of July 23 left the school submerged in water. All school supplies, desks, chairs, and teaching equipment were damaged or swept away. After the flood receded, the school was covered in mud more than 1 meter high. The schoolyard was patchy, and the classrooms were full of mud. Despite support, the school still faced many difficulties because the total damage was nearly 1 billion VND.

Understanding these difficulties, more than 30 teachers from Hung Thinh Kindergarten (Hung Nguyen Commune, Nghe An Province) traveled more than 100km to Chi Khe Kindergarten to help overcome the situation. Not only did they clean up mud and clean the classrooms, the teachers also donated and supported their colleagues in the flooded areas.

The school was in disarray after the flood.

Teacher Nguyen Lan Anh - Principal of the school said that although the school has just been transferred to a two-level government, the structure of the old schools in the Hung Nguyen Department of Education and Training has changed, but the kindergartens Hung Thinh, Hung Tay, Nguyen Hue, Hung My (now in Hung Nguyen commune) have proactively contacted each other and discussed solutions to join hands to support schools damaged by floods.

“Coming here, seeing the hard work of teachers in the highlands, we are truly moved. I believe that, with the determination, solidarity and unity of the local government, of “schools helping schools”, we will spread love together, overcome all difficulties to soon stabilize, and prepare all the best conditions to welcome the new school year”, Ms. Lan Anh shared.

During the recent floods, Con Cuong commune was one of the localities heavily affected by floods. In the education sector alone, 3 schools were deeply submerged in the flood, including Chi Khe Kindergarten, Tra Lan 2 Kindergarten, and Tra Lan 2 Primary School. In addition, 61 families of teachers working at many schools in the area were also damaged. Many teachers had their houses and property swept away by the flood, making their lives difficult.

At Chi Khe Kindergarten, one of the schools heavily affected, Director of Nghe An Department of Education and Training Thai Van Thanh acknowledged the efforts of the school and hoped that teachers would soon overcome difficulties and gradually stabilize their lives.

“The recent flood caused many schools to be inundated, buried deep in sand and soil, so the recovery work will take a long time. Teachers encourage each other to try to overcome the difficulties at this time,” the Director of the Nghe An Department of Education and Training encouraged.

Regarding other difficulties such as lack of teaching equipment, repairing damaged and lost facilities, the industry and local authorities will continue to work together to overcome them as soon as possible.

On this occasion, the education sector visited and supported 11 teachers (5 million VND each) who suffered losses in the historic flood; and supported Chi Khe Kindergarten with 50 million VND.

In the coming days, the education sector will continue to visit a number of schools and school locations in mountainous communes heavily affected by storm No. 3 to assess the situation and promptly find solutions to restore and prepare conditions for the new school year 2025-2026.

Along with the Army and Police forces, the image of teachers wading through mud to help people overcome the consequences demonstrated the spirit of "mutual love" of the nation.

Previously, the Nghe An Department of Education and Training had called for and mobilized the entire sector to support localities and schools in overcoming the storm and flood. Up to this point, the entire sector has mobilized nearly 1.5 billion VND to support damaged schools.

The industry also mobilized many schools in the province to send delegations of teachers to mountainous communes to directly support teachers and people in cleaning, sanitizing, and overcoming difficulties after storm No. 3.
