VietNamNetVietNamNet17/09/2024

The moment people struggled with storms and floods, leaders and soldiers wholeheartedly helped the people... was conveyed through the painting series "I love you so much, my compatriots..." by artist Le Sa Long.

General Secretary andPresident To Lam visited and encouraged people in flood-hit areas. This is one of 13 paintings in the series "I love you so much, my compatriots..." painted by artist Le Sa Long in 5 days, from September 10-14.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited the scene of the landslide in Lang Nu village, Lao Cai province, to direct the recovery of the consequences of the storm and flood. The artist spends time every day following the news of natural disasters on the radio and television. What prompted him to decide to paint the series of paintings was after watching the news report about the flash flood with its horrifying consequences.

The portrait of Professor Le Ngoc Thach sending a savings book of 1 billion VND to support the people of the North was recreated through the brush. His noble gesture made many people admire the spirit of mutual love and support of the Vietnamese people. Le Sa Long said he would bring the painting to the professor's house to give him as a gift of gratitude.

"Where is your home? Where are your parents?" is the artist's favorite work in the series. The image of a girl carrying her younger sibling out to play, only to return to find the village devastated and her parents dead is deeply moving. Le Sa Long painted continuously for 10 hours, after thinking of the tragic story in real life.

Soldiers help evacuate people during a fierce storm and flood. Most of the paintings are drawn in sketch form. The artist said he does not copy the original photos exactly, but tries to breathe life and emotion into each work to create aesthetics.

The Ministry of National Defense dispatched a plane to transport relief goods to Cao Bang. The goods the flight crew brought to help flood victims included dry food, milk, instant noodles, etc. The artist used moderate colors, with the typical green color of soldiers' uniforms.

Nguyen Huynh Bao Nhi, Kien Thiet Secondary School (District 3, Ho Chi Minh City) donated all his savings to support the people of the North. The artist wanted to emphasize that in times of danger, the spirit of "sharing food and clothes" and solidarity of the Vietnamese people makes international friends admire.

The work "Red River water rises to unprecedented levels, Hanoi on red alert" was painted on September 10 - recording the days when the capital's residents began to struggle with unprecedented flooding in the past 20 years.

British citizen Nathan Keers uses a boat to deliver meals to people isolated by floods in Thai Nguyen. In recent days, the whole country has turned its attention to the flood victims with many volunteer groups donating money, necessities and providing relief.

The child rescued from the rubble of a landslide in Lao Cai is depicted in a painting. The works are intimate, authentic, and reflect reality.

Soldiers help people stabilize their lives after the storm and flood. The artist plans to paint a few more pictures to fully capture the moments of the storm and flood, in order to complete the series of paintings for the upcoming exhibition.

People are struggling to survive in the storm and flood. “Everyone has a responsibility to society and the lives of the people. As an artist, I want to express my point of view and hope that my paintings will contribute some money to help my fellow countrymen,” Le Sa Long told VietNamNet.
Le Sa Long plans to organize an exhibition of this series of paintings along with the series "Saigon in the days of social distancing". All of them express the pain and loss of the Vietnamese people and the spirit of solidarity and the efforts of the people to overcome difficulties. The artist will contribute the money from the sale of the paintings to support the people in the North. Le Sa Long graduated from Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts and won the First Prize in "Watercolor Sketch Portrait" in 1999 co-organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Association. In 2018, Le Sa Long won the Second Prize in drawing about the country and people of Romania organized by the Romanian Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City. In 2021, the artist attracted attention with a series of paintings about humanity during the pandemic. Some of his famous paintings include: Paintings and sketches of stories about Saigon bread and Saigon people; the painting series "Masks and famous people"; a series of paintings in memory of 56 victims in the mini apartment fire in Hanoi...
