Y Ty in the most beautiful cloudy season of the year

These days, in Ngai Thau Thuong village of Y Ty commune ( Lao Cai ), the phenomenon of dense clouds appearing in the morning is entering the most beautiful time of the year.

Clouds continuously form from dawn, overflowing the mountainside and covering the roofs of the Mong people's houses, turning this area into one of the most prominent cloud hunting spots in Y Ty in early winter.

According to locals, the sea of clouds is usually thickest from late October to the end of December. Thanks to the large difference in day and night temperatures and the cold climate typical of an altitude of over 2,300m, Ngai Thau Thuong has clouds almost every morning, especially when there is fog at night and little wind.

Clouds poured from the mountain tops down into the valleys, forming a thick white layer like ocean waves crashing against the harvested terraced fields.

According to people living in Ngai Thau Thuong village, this year the clouds appeared regularly and lasted longer than usual. "From about 6am, the clouds covered the whole house. There were days when standing right in the yard, we couldn't see the road below. Many guests came up to take pictures, just standing in front of the porch, we were surrounded by clouds," said the people here.

At the 72-quai slope area, the road leading from Ta Suoi Cau to the commune center, many tourists stop to admire the panoramic view of Ngai Thau Thuong submerged under white clouds.

From this position, the rammed earth roofs, terraced fields and the valley below appear and disappear in the vast "sea of clouds".

Despite its impressive landscape, Ngai Thau Thuong currently has few tourist services. Accommodation is mainly homestays of local people, the number is not much and the conditions are simple.

Ms. Ly Thi Do, a small homestay owner, said that in recent weeks, the number of guests has increased sharply. "Weekends are usually full, many groups have to stay in neighboring villages and then go up early in the morning to hunt for clouds. The road is difficult but everyone wants to arrive at the right time when the clouds are beautiful," she said.

In addition to cloud hunting, visitors to Ngai Thau Thuong are also interested in two other seasons: the water-pouring season from March to April, when the terraced fields shine with the silver color of the newly brought water, and the ripe rice season in September. However, most visitors believe that the cloud season is still the most worth-visiting period of the year because the scenery is special and hard to find elsewhere.
