At the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the afternoon of January 11, the press asked about Vietnam's reaction to the news that the US had put Vietnam on a special watch list for religious freedom. In response, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang emphasized that Vietnam's consistent policy is to respect and ensure human rights, including the freedom of religion and belief of the people. This is clearly stated and stated in the 2013 Constitution and the legal system, as well as being guaranteed to be respected in practice.

According to Ms. Hang, Vietnam's efforts and achievements in ensuring human rights, including freedom of religion and belief, have been recognized by the international community in recent times. "Vietnam regrets and requests the US not to put Vietnam on the special watch list for religious freedom. There needs to be an objective assessment based on accurate and comprehensive information about the situation of freedom of religion and belief in Vietnam," the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed. Along with that, Ms. Hang said that Vietnam is willing to discuss with the US on issues of mutual concern in a spirit of frankness, openness and mutual respect, contributing to promoting the comprehensive strategic partnership for peace , cooperation and sustainable development between the two countries.
