Zeekr 9X - "Chinese Rolls Royce Cullinan" priced the same as the BMW X5

Western luxury carmakers are gradually realizing that the Chinese market is no longer as "lucrative" as before. The reason is that buyers here increasingly love domestic brands like Zeekr, most notably the new 2025 Zeekr 9X SUV.

To meet the demand for luxury cars of domestic consumers, the subsidiary of Geely Group has unveiled the Zeekr 9X large SUV for the first time at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show which opened on April 23. It is not difficult to guess which SUV models inspired the Zeekr design team when they sketched this rookie.

The Zeekr 9X bears a striking resemblance to the Range Rover, Rivian R1S and Rolls Royce Cullinan. The signature waterfall grille on the Zeekr is even larger than the one fitted to the Rolls-Royce Cullinan. Zeekr claims it has the world's largest grille, measuring 1,245mm at the bottom.

Above is the world's largest clamshell hood with an area of ​​up to 2.15 m². Not only the radiator grille but also the silver-plated details on the C-pillar are reminiscent of the design of the British super luxury SUV. Meanwhile, the rear LED taillights have a Range Rover feel.

If you ignore the above details, the overall design of the Zeekr 9X is somewhat outdated and lacking in creativity. The car does not have recessed door handles or reverse-opening rear doors. The lines on the car's body surface also lack the glossy, sophisticated look typical of European luxury car brands.

The car is equipped with 22-inch alloy wheels, each requiring 30 hours of hand polishing to achieve the desired mirror shine. The chassis includes a dual-chamber air suspension system and dual-valve continuously controlled shock absorbers.

Positioned as a super luxury car, the Zeekr 9X has large dimensions with length x width x height of 5,239 x 2,029 x 1,819 mm and a wheelbase of up to 3,169 mm. The car can raise the chassis up to 110 mm, achieve ground clearance of 288 mm, and is capable of climbing 70% slopes even in deep snow conditions.

Zeekr has not yet released images and information about the interior of the 9X. Zeekr only revealed that the 9X has the largest rear doors among new energy SUVs in the Chinese market. The rear doors can open up to 80 degrees, making it easier to get in and out of the third row of seats.

As previously rumored, the Zeekr 9X is the company's first hybrid vehicle with a pure electric range of up to 380 km according to the CLTC test standard in China. Zeekr claims this is the longest pure electric range among hybrid vehicles.

Electric power is provided by a CATL Xiaoyao battery, located in a 900 V high-voltage system, combined with a 2.0L turbocharged gasoline engine, producing a maximum output of 205 kW (279 hp). The vehicle's powertrain also includes a front electric motor with a maximum output of 290 kW (395 hp) and a rear electric motor with a powerful 370 kW (503 hp).

With a combined output of 898 horsepower, the car can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 3 seconds and reach a top speed of 240 km/h. The gasoline engine is combined with a 3-speed automatic transmission, transmitting power to all 4 wheels. Zeekr also claims that the 9X is the fastest charging hybrid SUV in the world.

Accordingly, the car has a 6C charging capacity, which is 6 times the nominal capacity of the battery, helping to charge from 20% to 80% in just 9 minutes. However, the official battery capacity has not been confirmed. In addition, the Zeekr 9X is also equipped with a 48V electric active anti-sway system, the first to appear on an SUV from a Chinese brand.

This system helps the car to almost not lean when cornering at high speed, and can also "disconnect" the two wheels on both sides to reduce the impact of rough road surfaces. Not stopping there, Zeekr also launched the new G-Pilot H9 self-driving system on the 9X, reaching level 3 autonomy.

The system uses two Thor chips, providing a total computing performance of up to 1,400 TOPS, supported by five LiDAR sensors. According to the plan, the Zeekr 9X will be launched in the Chinese market in the third quarter of this year. Most likely, the price of the 2025 Zeekr 9X will be around 70,000 USD, just equal to the BMW X5.
