This is a competition round between 100 candidates with high results in round 1, coming from 17 secondary schools, representing 38,482 students of 69 secondary schools in cluster 1 (candidates from coastal secondary schools across the province participating in the competition are divided into 2 clusters 1 and 2 by the Organizing Committee).

The contestants went through 4 rounds: "Going to sea", "Crossing the waves", "Arriving at the shore" and "Setting sovereignty markers", by answering multiple choice questions from the main set of questions (20 questions), 15 additional questions and 15 questions from the contest's Advisory Board. The questions covered knowledge about Vietnam's seas and islands; the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, the Law of the Sea of Vietnam and the Law on the Vietnam Coast Guard; regulations on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing; the organizational structure and functions of the Vietnam Coast Guard; history, geography, culture and tradition of fighting against foreign invaders of the nation... As a result, 50 contestants excellently passed this round to win tickets to participate in round 3 of the contest.

Colonel Hoang Ngoc Thien - Political Commissar of the 32nd Coast Guard Squadron, Head of the Organizing Committee of the contest shared: “Through the contest “I love the sea and islands of my homeland”, we hope to continue to contribute to raising the understanding of students in Khanh Hoa province about Vietnam’s seas and islands; the provisions of Vietnamese law on seas and islands and international treaties to which Vietnam is a member. At the same time, educating the traditions, history and culture of the homeland and country. On that basis, fostering the spirit of patriotism, love for the sea and islands of the Fatherland, enhancing civic responsibility, actively participating in developing the marine economy , firmly protecting sovereignty, security and safety of the sea and islands, contributing to making our country a strong and rich nation from the sea…”.
