Hanoi: A group of runners from Hanoi challenged themselves to conquer two distances, 10km and 21km, around Ho Guom Lake.

Twelve hundred and twenty-seven runners participated in the Breaking 365 event on the morning of January 6th. Of these, 41 conquered the 10km distance, while 86 ran the 21km. Each runner, upon registering with the organizers, had to set a time goal for themselves and then strive to surpass it.

"This isn't a race, but an opportunity for everyone to break their limits and challenge themselves. The organizers set breaking milestones and assigned pace setters to run according to those timeframes," shared Dinh Linh, a member of the organizing committee.

In fact, Breaking 365 is a regular Saturday long run organized by a group of runners in Hanoi. Among the participants were 96 people from the 365 Running Club and 31 people from other clubs.

In early 2022, Run 365 organized a similar event called Breaking 3. However, that event included a full marathon (FM) and 52 people completed it. According to the organizers, Breaking 365 on January 6th did not include a FM distance because they wanted to keep it as a training session that also challenged the limits of participating runners.

"We want to convey the message that every runner, whether fast or slow, understands the importance of dedication and courage, perseverance and effort. Thanks to this, runners can run to the best of their ability and surpass themselves," said Dinh Linh.

Not every runner participating in Breaking 365 completed their set time. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai Yen, a runner currently active in the Chay365 Club, set herself a time of 1 hour and 35 minutes for the 21km distance. Although she didn't finish it, the runner born in 1984 was happy because she dared to challenge her limits and thereby set a new personal best.

"This is a very difficult timeframe for my current abilities. But because the nature of Breaking 365 is to push one's limits, I boldly chose it. I'm not sad that I didn't reach the timeframe; in fact, I'm happy that I knew it was difficult but still dared to register. I'm sure I will reach 1:35 for the half marathon, and this will be my goal for 2024," Ms. Yen shared.
