Although the team from Bac Ninh has won the championship many times in the northern region, they have not had much luck in the national tournament. Their best achievement was reaching the quarter-finals in 2006 in Da Nang and then participating in the Southeast Asian Student Tournament in 2007. In that tournament, the team with player Nguyen Duc Anh (currently Head of the school's football department) finished third.

2008 was also the last time that the team named Central Sports University 1 participated in the national tournament in Ho Chi Minh City. Because after that, the Government decided to change the name to Bac Ninh Sports University, at the same time, some strict regulations of student football in the following tournaments made it impossible for sports schools to participate in student football anymore.

Therefore, the return of Bac Ninh University of Physical Education and Sports at the 2024 Vietnam Youth Student Football Tournament is considered a breakthrough after 16 years. Bac Ninh University of Physical Education and Sports is in group A of the northern region qualifying round, along with Phuong Dong University and the host Thuy Loi University, which is considered quite exciting because only the top team is sure to enter the regional semi-finals, and if ranked second, the achievement must be really high to have hope when compared to the other two second-placed teams of groups B and C to only get one team to continue playing. The core force of Bac Ninh University of Sports is still the students of the Faculty of Physical Education who won the national 7-a-side championship organized by Vietfootball in 2022 in Khanh Hoa.
