The Vietnamese music scene has witnessed the rise of a generation of talented young artists like My Anh - Nan - Marzuz, determined to follow their own path despite being born in the "cradle" of music .
Prominent among them are My Anh (born in 2002), Nan (2001) and Marzuz (2000) - three faces who are gradually asserting their position in the contemporary music industry.
My Anh: From home studio to international stages
Born in 2002, My Anh is the daughter of musician Anh Quan and singer My Linh. The young singer was exposed to professional music when she regularly appeared on stage with her mother and studied in her father's studio since the age of 8.
2020 marked a turning point in My Anh's career with her debut single Got You. In 2021, the singer made an impression when she won the runner-up prize of Idol vs Idol and released the song Real Love in collaboration with musician Khac Hung. My Anh's success was recognized when Dep Magazine voted her one of the 15 outstanding young figures in the art field and the Outstanding New Face award at Blue Wave 2021.

My Anh's musical style is a blend of many genres such as R&B, alternative R&B, soul, blues, electropop and bossa nova. She is inspired by many international artists, especially jazz musician Esperanza Spalding, who inspired the singer to play bass and sing at the same time. Other artists who have influenced My Anh's music include Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Marvin Gaye and Billie Eilish.
Despite being judged as being picky about her listeners, My Anh remains steadfast in her chosen musical path. She affirms that she only wants to make products that truly reflect her emotions and are suitable for her generation, not following market trends.
In addition to music, My Anh also nourishes her soul by reading books by Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh - a habit inherited from her mother, helping her gain a deeper insight into life from a Buddhist perspective. This is shown through the "Pillars" tattoo on her arm - a symbol of her spiritual stability.
NÂN: Put your studies on hold to pursue an artistic career.
Born in 2001, the daughter of musician Hong Kien - "the most famous trumpet player in Vietnam", Nan (real name Nguyen Hong Trang) has had a rather special musical journey. Although she grew up in a family with a tradition, she did not have formal music lessons and only started playing musical instruments in 8th grade. Nan refused to learn the guitar her father bought her, but instead explored and developed her passion in her own way.

In grade 11, Nân started composing and had her first audience. After graduating from high school, although she studied Management at RMIT, she decided to put her studies on hold to pursue an artistic career. Nân was the lead vocalist of the band Windrunner, which played metal and hardcore rock - a choice quite different from her father's music.
NÂN’s musical journey spans many genres, from indie pop to progressive metal, before settling on her alternative-pop style. Her music blends elements from alternative, jazz, broadway, poetry to children’s music, leaning towards rough industrial rather than gentle and delicate.
Influenced by artists such as SOPHIE, FKA Twigs, Tran Thu Ha, Charli XCX, Sevdaliza, Arca and Rosalia, Nân has developed her own style with a special blend of pop and electronic. What is special about Nân's compositions is that she always focuses on authenticity, writing from personal experiences and perspectives.
Nan's debut album XT-TX , conceived over four years, clearly shows a musical personality that does not follow any stereotype. The name Xau Tinh - Tinh Xau carries a positive message about facing and overcoming limitations to grow up.
Recently, NÂN was invited by singer Tùng Dương to collaborate on the album Da vô tử . The work ''Đập đá'' is a harmonious combination between Tùng Dương and NÂN. ''NÂN is a talented and meticulous young singer. I find working with NÂN more difficult than working with his father - musician Hồng Kiên. This is a young artist I have high hopes for because of his unique musical personality and meticulousness in his work'' - Tùng Dương shared with VietNamNet.
Marzuz - A Healing Journey Through Music
Marzuz's real name is Tran My Anh, born in 2000, is the daughter of guitarist Tran Thanh Phuong and the niece of singer Tran Thu Ha (Ha Tran).
Starting her career at the age of 16, My Anh chose the stage name Marzuz and decided not to rely on her family's reputation. She recorded her first song on her phone, gradually building her name through compositions such as If, And the world has lost a lonely person. Marzuz has also participated in many notable music projects such as collaborating with Tran Thu Ha on the song Khong Tuong (2018) and recently Exit sign with HIEUTHUHAI.
Marzuz shows "all is well":
Marzuz's music is deeply personal, influenced by artists such as Norah Jones and Alanis Morissette. Having gone through a mental health crisis at the age of 13 and being treated for depression at 18, these experiences have helped shape her signature musical style - which leans towards deep, melodic tones.
Marzuz's debut album "Her" consists of 9 songs, crystallizing her experiences after a broken relationship. She believes that making art is not to seek fame or wealth, but simply to express what she thinks.
All three young artists come from famous musical families but have chosen different paths. With their families’ support and no stereotypes, they confidently developed their own styles, gradually making their mark on the audience. The initial success of My Anh, Nan and Marzuz proves that talent can blossom in many directions, while affirming that the generation of young Vietnamese artists is enriching the contemporary music picture with uniqueness and novelty.
