The ceremony was held online with 63 connecting points nationwide, with an estimated attendance of nearly 2 million officials and members. Attending the ceremony at the Hanoi connecting point were comrades who were former leaders of the Party and State through the periods, representatives of ministries, branches and central organizations.
At the Tay Ninh bridge point, there were Mr. Doan Trung Kien - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, along with representatives of departments, branches and 20 typical elderly delegates.
Within the framework of the ceremony, there were activities to review the tradition of the Vietnamese elderly, the founding day of the Association; the Vietnam Association of the Elderly was honored to receive the First Class Labor Medal; leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, ministries and branches launched the humanitarian program "Bright Eyes for the Elderly". The program was implemented nationwide by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly in coordination with the Ministry of Health from 2025 to 2028.
Continuing the heroic spirit of Dien Hong
In his speech celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh - Chairman of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly said: "The 30th anniversary of the Association marks a glorious milestone in its construction and development. "Living happily, living healthily, living happily" is not only the destination of the elderly but also the journey of the whole nation, to contribute to building our country to be more and more dignified, more beautiful, standing shoulder to shoulder with the world powers as President Ho Chi Minh wished and the aspiration of the whole nation".
In the history of national development, the elderly have made many contributions to the process of building and defending the country. The Dien Hong spirit continues to be promoted in the national defense and the construction and development of the country up to the present. In the current context, the elderly continue to affirm themselves as an important class of people, a solid foundation for stable and sustainable development.
After 6 congresses, the Association is now basically complete in terms of organization and activities, is an active member of the Vietnam Fatherland Front representing the will, aspirations and interests of the elderly, promoting the Dien Hong spirit, inheriting the Association of Elderly People for National Salvation initiated and established by President Ho Chi Minh.
In the past time, the Association has always strictly followed the Party's guidelines, the State's policies and laws, built and effectively implemented 3 core tasks, 3 major work programs, 2 tasks assigned by the Government; promoted propaganda to raise awareness, fight against wrong views to protect the Party and the regime; promoted the patriotic emulation movement "Old age, bright example"; strengthened people's diplomacy, promoted and enhanced the country's position in the process of deep international integration.
The country has nearly 17 million elderly people, currently, about 9 million elderly people are directly participating in production and business; 1.3 million people participate in the grassroots political system; 750 thousand people participate in the work of the Party, government, Fatherland Front, and mass organizations and over 300 thousand people participate in reconciliation and security and order teams in villages.
Especially during the recent fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, the precious image of tens of thousands of elderly people who were very dedicated, sharing hardships with the authorities to propagate and mobilize the implementation of epidemic prevention measures, and donate to help the needy overcome difficulties has left a beautiful impression in the hearts of the people and international friends.
Caring for and honoring the elderly is the responsibility of the whole society.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Do Van Chien - Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front said that the fine cultural tradition of the Vietnamese people has always respected and honored the elderly; the elderly are valuable assets of society, of each clan and each family. The wisdom, experience and enthusiasm of the elderly are always a solid spiritual support for society, family and descendants.
The elderly have always been exemplary in participating in movements and campaigns launched by the Party and the State, contributing to building the homeland and the country more and more prosperous. In recent times, all levels, sectors and the whole society have implemented many programs for the elderly such as "The whole people take care of, support and promote the role of the elderly", the movement "When drinking water, remember its source", "Repaying gratitude", "Supporting grandparents and parents" ... These are good cultural features, continuing the source of morality of the Vietnamese people.
According to Mr. Do Van Chien, after 30 years of establishment and development, the Association of the Elderly has continuously grown and developed in both scale and quality of activities. The Association has gathered, mobilized and motivated millions of elderly people nationwide to participate in activities in the grassroots political system, according to their health capacity, to continue to participate in labor production, creating material wealth for society, including many people with outstanding achievements, honored to be awarded noble titles by the Party and State.
In order for the activities of the Association of the Elderly to become more practical and effective, helping to better care for and promote the role and resources of the elderly, Mr. Do Van Chien suggested that Party committees at all levels, authorities, branches, and associations from the central to grassroots levels continue to thoroughly grasp and effectively implement the direction of General Secretary To Lam in his speech on the occasion of the 83rd anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Elderly in Vietnam in 2024.
In addition, Party committees at all levels, authorities, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, mass organizations, and associations at all levels from the central to the grassroots level continue to thoroughly grasp the consistent viewpoint of the Party and State that identifies the elderly as an important socio-political force in the cause of national construction and defense; caring for and promoting the role of the elderly is the responsibility of the Party, State, society and family.
The Association of the Elderly needs to proactively arrange and consolidate the organization to be streamlined and operate effectively and efficiently according to the model of a two-level local government, be an active member of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, closely follow the grassroots and residential areas; strongly innovate the content and methods of operation, grasp the thoughts and aspirations of members; propagate and encourage children and grandchildren to agree, support, and voluntarily implement all policies and guidelines of the Party and policies and laws of the State.
Associations at all levels need to proactively develop practical, feasible solutions that are suitable to reality, and successfully organize the implementation of the "Strategy for the Elderly to 2035, with a vision to 2045" and the Project "Elderly people participating in digital transformation, green transformation, entrepreneurship and job creation". At the same time, proactively coordinate with relevant agencies to summarize the implementation of Directive 59-CT/TW of the Central Party Secretariat on caring for the elderly; research, proactively propose, amend and supplement a number of contents of the Law on the Elderly, create a legal framework, and propose new policies for the activities of Associations at all levels to protect, care for, and better promote important resources from the elderly.
Focus on discovering and replicating advanced models and shining examples of the elderly in all areas of social life; promptly commend, reward and encourage advanced models to continue promoting their role and making positive contributions to the cause of building the homeland and the country.
The elderly actively participate in building a strong Party, government, Fatherland Front and mass organizations, contributing to building a prosperous and strong homeland and country, and a prosperous and happy life for the people.
He also requested that Party committees at all levels, the government, the Fatherland Front and the whole society continue to pay attention, support resources, and create favorable conditions for the Elderly Association to operate effectively. This should be considered a political responsibility, a sacred morality of the nation, passing on to our descendants the tradition of respecting the elderly, valuing longevity, remembering the source of water, and honoring the elderly; promoting the Dien Hong spirit in the cause of building and defending the beloved Vietnamese Fatherland.
