During the days when the staff and workers of Ba Son Corporation were competing enthusiastically to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the unit's tradition, we met Lieutenant Colonel Bui The Dung, Deputy Director of the Pipe Factory, who was still working hard with his teammates and colleagues to make pipe products to meet the progress of the corporation's orders. He meticulously checked the welds and pipe sections to ensure that each product of the factory was of the best quality.
Lieutenant Colonel Bui The Dung shared: “The workload of the Pipe Factory is very large because the pipe system is extremely important, like the “blood vessels” of each ship. However, most of the factory’s work uses mechanical methods in processing. Therefore, the staff, engineers, and workers of the factory always promote a high level of responsibility, working with the spirit of "product quality and the reputation of the enterprise are above all". Working overtime and on holidays is not uncommon at the Pipe Factory.”

According to Lieutenant Colonel Bui The Dung, the corporation is currently building, repairing and maintaining many types of military and economic ships. The corporation is also strengthening cooperation, developing and expanding the market with major domestic and international partners and customers, developing the field of building new ships for export. In that context, the enterprise has determined its determination and plan to strive for production, contributing to the overall mission of the corporation.
According to our observations, the Pipe Factory's work characteristics are a lot of welding and cutting, the environment is full of machinery noise and high temperature. The workers work urgently, quickly and accurately at each stage thanks to strict adherence to the plan, technical standards and close coordination. The work is hard but builds the pride of the Pipe Factory workers, because the pipe system always accounts for nearly 30% of the volume of a ship.
As a young manager (assumed the position of Deputy Director of the enterprise from August 2023) who grew up from the grassroots, Lieutenant Colonel Bui The Dung always reminds himself to stick to the practical tasks and working environment to create motivation to unite his colleagues, understand difficulties and promptly resolve them to improve labor efficiency. For him, the biggest lesson is to turn pressures such as: urgent progress, strict technical requirements, high precision, competitive pressure... into creative motivation for workers. Along with that, he is also a pioneer in implementing initiatives and technical improvements.
The working environment of the Pipe Factory is always harsh and difficult. |
Up to now, engineer Bui The Dung has participated in implementing production rationalization initiatives such as: Designing and manufacturing tube furnace wagons (2021); using Navisworks software to support ShipsConstructor software in designing pipe system technology on ships; successfully applying the SK-COS5-800N pipe profile cutting machine to improve productivity and aesthetics in pipe processing for shipbuilding and repair at Ba Son Corporation... He also participated in a science and technology topic on "Designing, processing and manufacturing pipe bending dies".
Lieutenant Colonel Bui The Dung remembers most about researching, manufacturing and installing the smoke and dust extraction system for the SK-COS5-800N pipe profile cutting machine in 2023. According to him, the work of cutting pipe materials on the machine for repair and new construction generates a lot of smoke and dust in the workshop, especially cutting galvanized steel pipes, steel pipes that have not been treated with a protective paint layer, seriously affecting the working environment, workers' health and construction progress. After much thought and research, he created a smoke and dust extraction system for the SK-COS5-800N pipe profile cutting machine.
According to the assessment of the corporation, the effectiveness of the above initiative is to improve the working environment, contributing to ensuring the health of teammates and colleagues. Thereby, increasing productivity and work efficiency, meeting the requirements of quality, technology and construction progress of new and repaired products.
In 2023, he was assigned to be in charge of the construction of a new series of CF3850 export ships for the Dutch Damen Group. With a large workload, a small workforce, and high-tech process and progress requirements, he actively and proactively studied documents and drawings, mastered technological processes in production, and guided workers to perform well the processing and installation of systems on ships, ensuring customer requirements. He and the factory commander arranged construction personnel in reasonable segments, organized overtime, and closely followed the overall progress of the product in each stage, minimizing overlapping work, reducing labor and material costs, and ensuring safety for workers.

Despite being busy with management work, Lieutenant Colonel Bui The Dung still spends time training and developing workers in each step of the production process, from design to manufacturing and quality control. He, along with the Party Committee and the factory commander, take good care of the material and spiritual lives of his employees.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Long, Head of Production Team 10 shared: “Comrade Bui The Dung is a young cadre with good professional skills, always eager to learn, and willing to listen to the experiences of those who have gone before. Regarding new technical issues, he always promptly trains his colleagues to ensure the quality of work. Comrade Dung and the collective leadership of the enterprise have built a harmonious and united working environment, helping employees see each other as brothers and sisters in one family. The work of the enterprise is always sweaty, but everyone is happy and proud to be able to contribute to the Ba Son brand.”
Discussing his upcoming plans, Lieutenant Colonel Bui The Dung said that he will continue to study to improve his expertise, grasp new technological trends to apply to the characteristics of the Pipe Factory to help workers have less hardship and to continuously increase work quality and productivity. He and the factory will make more efforts and determination in the overall formation of Ba Son Corporation, continuing the 100-year tradition and writing new achievements.
