The Dak Nong provincial planning identifies four socio-economic sub-regions to maximize the potential and strengths of each region.
Gia Nghia is the political , economic, and social center and the core urban area of the central socio-economic sub-region of Dak Nong province. Gia Nghia is currently a type III urban area and is projected to reach type II status by 2030. Dak R'lap (and Gia Nghia) belongs to the central socio-economic sub-region of Dak Nong. Dak R'lap is the industrial "engine" of Dak Nong, with the Nhan Co Aluminum Plant having been in commercial operation since 2017 and the Dak Nong Aluminum Electrolysis Plant (above, left corner) currently under construction.
Currently, the Nhan Co Aluminum Plant produces approximately 700,000 tons of aluminum per year. The plant provides employment for over 1,000 workers and contributes about 400 billion VND to the Dak Nong provincial budget each year. Dak Song district is located in the western economic sub-region of Dak Nong province and possesses enormous potential for renewable energy. Six wind power projects are underway in the district, including one that has been completed and is commercially operational. Tuy Duc border district, located in the western economic sub-region of Dak Nong province, possesses significant agricultural potential. Tuy Duc boasts many high-quality agricultural products, the most famous of which is macadamia nuts (In the photo: Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan visiting a macadamia nut production model in Tuy Duc in 2023). In the border district of Tuy Duc, there is the Bu P'rang border gate, located in Quang Truc commune. The border gate is about 80km from the center of Gia Nghia city and serves as a gateway for trade with Mondulkiri province, Cambodia. Dak Mil belongs to the northern socio-economic sub-region of Dak Nong province and has a long history of development. The Dak Nong provincial planning aims to transform Dak Mil into a town by 2030, achieving Type III urban status. Cư Jút is located in the northern socio-economic sub-region of Đắk Nông province, bordering Buôn Ma Thuột city (Đắk Lắk province). The Tâm Thắng Industrial Park, established and operating since 2002, currently has an occupancy rate of approximately 90%, making a significant contribution to the local industrial sector. The UNESCO Dak Nong Global Geopark spans five districts and cities, primarily in Krong No district (pictured is Nam Kar Volcano). After being recognized by UNESCO in 2020 and re-recognized in 2023, the UNESCO Dak Nong Global Geopark has become a popular destination for both domestic and international tourists. Krông Nô belongs to the Eastern Economic Subregion and is a key food production area of Đắk Nông. It boasts vast rice paddies stretching along the Krông Nô River, producing exceptionally fragrant and delicious rice that is world-renowned. Ta Dung Lake in Dak Glong district (part of the eastern economic zone of Dak Nong province) is considered the "Ha Long Bay of the Central Highlands" with its pristine beauty and attracts many tourists. ]]>
