On the morning of August 29, at Noi Bai International Airport, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training welcomed and congratulated the delegation of students from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, representing Vietnam, to participate in the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad. This is the first time that 100% of the Hanoi delegation won medals at the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad after 8 times participating. The Hanoi delegation (Vietnam) consisting of 5 students from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, excellently won 2 Silver medals and 3 Bronze medals. The two students who won Silver medals were Nguyen Ba Linh and Nguyen Xuan Hoang; the 3 members who won Bronze medals were Nguyen Thi Thu Minh, Luu Quang Minh and Dam Ngoc Bao Lam. Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong said that this achievement was the result of the students' efforts, the close support of the school and their families. This proud result is a milestone and a beautiful memory on the students' learning path and I hope they will continue to strive to achieve even higher results. Nguyen Ba Linh, a 12th grade student of Physics 1 at Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, won a Silver medal at the exam and said that despite many difficulties during the exam, the participants received the attention of teachers, maintained a strong mentality, were confident, and determined to do the exam, and achieved good results. Welcoming her child home after the exam, Ms. Tran Thi Thu Thuy, Nguyen Ba Linh's parent, said that since she was a child, her child has had a great passion for astronomy. Understanding and supporting her child's passion, the family created the best conditions to accompany and support her. Preparing for the exam, the children had a very difficult and strenuous journey when the review time was only 2 months. During the day, the children studied at school and stayed up almost all night to study and observe the sky. There was a time when my friends and I went to Nha Trang to observe. I have a background in English, so it helped a lot in the learning process. Passion and effort are not enough, to achieve this result, there is also great contribution from teachers. The 2024 International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics took place in Brazil from August 17-27, attracting nearly 300 students from 53 countries and territories. This is the 8th time Vietnam has participated in this competition. Students must participate in 3 parts, including theory (in 5 hours); data processing (in 3 hours); day and night observation with a total time of 2 hours and 15 minutes. This is the 17th year that the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics has been held. The Hanoi student delegation, representing Vietnam, participated in this competition since 2016 and won a Silver medal in the first competition. Trusted and authorized by the Ministry of Education and Training to participate in the exam in the following years, the Hanoi student team continuously achieved high results, affirming Vietnam's position in this exam.
