50 typical architectural works of 34 southern provinces and cities (from Quang Tri and below) were honored by the Vietnam Association of Architects.

On the morning of April 19, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnam Association of Architects and the Ho Chi Minh City Association of Architects jointly organized the conference Vietnamese Architecture - 50 years of national reunification.

The workshop was attended by many researchers, architects, experts in the fields of planning, architecture, critical theory, and heritage conservation from Hanoi , Ho Chi Minh City, and many provinces and cities in the Central and Southern regions.

Honoring 50 typical architectural works in the South

Vietnam Association of Architects awarded certificates of merit to the authors of 50 typical architectural works of 34 southern provinces and cities.

These are typical architectural works, considered symbols of many provinces and cities such as: Hung King Temple in Can Tho city by the group of architects Nguyen Thanh Tai, Nguyen Duc Thinh, Vu Dinh Dung; Cao Van Lau Theater in Bac Lieu by architect Vuong Hoang Le; Huong River Theater in Hue by the group of architects Nguyen Xuan Minh, Huynh Quang;

Monument to Heroic Vietnamese Mothers in Quang Nam by architect Nguyen Luan; Lam Vien Square in Da Lat by architect Tran Van Dung;

The welcome gate of Sam Mountain tourist area - An Giang by architect Tran Chanh Trung; Dong Ha market - Quang Tri by architect Nguyen Tien Thuan, Tran Bien Temple of Literature in Dong Nai by a group of architects Nguyen Thien Tam, Dinh Van Binh, Dinh Thi Bich Hang;

In particular, Ho Chi Minh City has up to 10 architectural works honored such as: Hung Kings Memorial Area by architect Nguyen Truong Luu; Ben Duoc - Cu Chi Memorial Temple by architect Khuong Van Muoi; Ho Chi Minh City Student Cultural House by architect Nguyen Trung Kien; Nguyen Van To Secondary School (District 10) by architect Dong Viet Thai...

Ho Chi Minh City leads in green architecture

Mr. Phan Dang Son - Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Architects, representative of the organizing committee - said that the organizing committee received 23 in-depth presentations on planning, architecture, urban and rural areas, summarizing the achievements in the development of architectural planning of the country in the past 50 years, including Ho Chi Minh City.

The workshop raised discussion topics revolving around urban and rural planning, architecture, architectural heritage and architect training.

Architect Nguyen Quoc Thong - Chairman of the Architecture Council, Vietnam Association of Architects - shared that current architecture includes 4 trends: international modern architecture trend, tropical modern architecture trend, national modern architecture trend, indigenous modern architecture trend and green architecture.

In it, he emphasized the trend of modern indigenous architecture and green architecture as the architecture of the future.

The German House in Ho Chi Minh City by architect Von Gerkan is the first architectural work designed and built according to modern indigenous architecture and green architecture, which is also the current trend.

Ho Chi Minh City is the cradle of modern architecture. The trend of green architecture has been developing for about 20 years, stemming from the needs of world society. Vietnam currently has about 650 green buildings, of which Ho Chi Minh City is the leading urban area, accounting for 20%.

Mr. Nguyen Truong Luu - Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Architects, President of the Ho Chi Minh City Association of Architects - also affirmed that modern, suitable and environmentally friendly architectural works will become heritage in the future.

"The 2015-2025 period integrates technology - localization - sustainable architecture (shaping contemporary architectural style), in which international modern trends, localization, greening and digital technology are simultaneously applied and integrated.

"Green architecture has become the main orientation in the design of civil and public works today" - architect Nguyen Song Hoan Nguyen, Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture, emphasized.

Vietnam currently has 36 institutions and units training architects. Each year, they enroll 3,800 students.

Of which, 3 long-standing schools maintain prestige and training characteristics: Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture, Hanoi University of Architecture and Hanoi University of Civil Engineering.

Chairman of the Architectural Council Nguyen Quoc Thong assessed that the quality of training has not kept up with the world, and that new majors are slow to be added. Vietnam currently has more than 20,000 architects, but the quality is uneven.
